“Aunt” Teresa

The drive to Teresa’s house was long and filled with anticipation and dread. I’m sure, dear reader, that you know who was feeling what. They arrived just before dark and found their “aunt” waiting for them on her front porch. Their mom ran to her sister and for a moment she reminded the twins of a kindergartner running to their mother
after the first day of school.  They shared a quick hug and Teresa invited them inside. To Jayla’s delight and Haden’s dismay, they discovered that Teresa had a baby. Her name was Bailey. Jayla, being twelve, loved babies and immediately ran to her and spun her around. “Maybe this summer won’t be TOO bad.” She muttered under her breath. Haden however, being the tough, twelve year old boy he was, thought of Bailey as a distraction to all of the fun he and his twin could have. Sighing he turned to the table to find a HUGE dinner sitting there. Noticing the look on his face Teresa said “ Is there something wrong sweetie? I could have more food, this is just what I usually have. I’m sorry.” Shaking his head and sitting down Haden thought ‘maybe this summer might not be SO bad after all.’
