Chapter Three

Chapter Three The sun had just risen in the sky and cats all around Forest Clan were waking up, sharing tongues, and eating before they had to go on a patrol. Flamingpaw, had just coming from the nursery, wasn't too fond of waking up this early especially when it's by Dewpaw jabbing her paw in your stomach. When he finally lost the battle against Dewpaw he found the den empty, and his mentors waiting for him.
"Well you slept a handful this morning Flamingpaw, if you want to make it you'd better get used to waking up earlier" Flamewind teased already starting to pad towards the camp entrance. "Wait what about my morning meal?" Flamingpaw looked between the two mentors as his belly growled. Dewpaw smirked, "we don't wait for sleepyheads' meal". "No it's fine go ahead and eat, but eat fast" Doeriver nodded.
After Flamingpaw's quick work of a vole the two mentors and their apprentices headed out of camp to tour Forest Clan's territory. "Now Forest Clan's territory is big and if you don't know your way around you could get lost" Doeriver lead the group down a path, "this path will always bring you back to camp, and it's easy to decipher because it's lined with Chervil. Chervil is sweet smelling and this is where Amberleaf and Stonepaw collect the herb, so try not step or destroy it". "And if you get lost we won't come out to find you" Flamewind meowed. "Hear that Flamingpaw?" Dewpaw raised her eyebrows. Doeriver seeing Flamingpaw's expression mewed, "Please don't take him too seriously Flamewind teases around a lot, and Dewpaw stop shaming your brother". Flamewind looked apologetically at the orange apprentice and rushed ahead, "follow me".
Flamewind stopped them at some piles of pine needles and overshadowing pine trees, "tell me what do you two smell?". "Dung!" Dewpaw stuck out her tongue, "Eww why are we even here?". "It smells like pine and crow food, to be honest" Flamingpaw flinched at the putrid smell. "Yes this clan does have a unique smell, but you'll get used to it", Doeriver purred amused at the young cats reactions, "what clan do you think it is?". Dewpaw thought on her feet, "If the elders' stories are true about this clan's nasty smell, it's got to be Flame Clan! The horrid, the stinky, and the brainless!". Doeriver shook her head, "That is correct and you say the elder's told you all of this?". Dewpaw nodded as Flamingpaw supported it, "the elders may be a bit bias". Flamewind stared darkly into the pine trees, "Can't blame them. Now if you cross these needles you're considered in Flame Clan territory, I advise you to never cross it. Flame Clan is merciless and will stop at nothing to use an accident like crossing over the border to destroy us". "Yes, this is why we don't hunt over here" Doeriver agreed, "let's move on to the Sky trees".
"This is a stone path, it'll lead you all around our territory" Doeriver herded every cat on a stone path, "if you go straight on it, which is what we'll be doing, you will eventually run into Sky trees". Flamewind joined in, "When you come across them it means you're at the half way point in our territory. It's said none of the trees have a top, except for the middle one it's top reaches the heavens of our ancestors".
Doeriver nodded in tune at Flamewind until they reached Sky trees, "Ah, here we are! Sky trees is one of the richest prey places in our territory, it's where a little less than a quarter most of our fresh kill comes from. The prey here is also very diverse it has squirrels, mice, and birds". "So cool" Flamingpaw lifted his jaws apart to find different prey scents being blasted at him. "That's nice and all, but Flamewind said that the middle tree lead to our ancestors. Has any cat tried to climb the trees?" Dewpaw padded towards the middle one with sparkling eyes. "Yeah, it used to be how a medicine cat would decide if a kit could become a medicine cat apprentice. Many young cats died in those days, of course we realized those morals were wrong" Flamewind told these stories proudly, "some warriors tried climbing them but they either died or permanently injured". At that Dewpaw stepped back from the tree, "Oh".
"Enough of Sky trees let's head straight" Doeriver padded calmly away from sky trees.
