The beginning of the end

My name's joe im gonna tell ya the story of the end of the NYC's steam power. It was a beautiful evening the day of june,12 but then......it came. I heard a loud roar and then the sound of a horn and thought "well must be a union pacific gtel( gas turbine electric locomotive), then I saw the livery black with a gray stripe.
"B-b-but the nyc doesn't have any diesels!!!!"
A man walked up and put his hand on my shoulder.
"I'll miss them big iron horses too boy." He was an older man but then I saw something in his pocket.
"A pocket watch?"
"Huh.....what this ol' thing I got it durin WW2.....I was drivin Niagara#6005 we were hauling a west bound troop train out to cally that's what we used to call California."I looked at him curiously and realised je was the man my grandfatherfather worked with.
"Hey mister!"
"My name's Eddie boy." I looked at this man wondering, How would he know what's going on?,
"Sir... I mean Eddie wait!"
"Yes what do you want."
"Do you know what's going on?!"
"Well....*sigh* steam's dying out that there is a diesel a Baldwin shark to be exact."
"But the NYC doesn't run diesels!"
"All roads are making the switch" I looked at the ,shark, it was ugly and smelt strange.
