Realization
In my dream, Priscilla was telling me that she was suffocating. Except... what if she wasn't the only one in my nightmare? What if Polly was there, too? What if...I pushed my mom out of the way and got dressed quickly. My mother asked me where I was going, but I just made a sound like a squeak and ran to the cemetery. I headed straight for the graves of Priscilla and Polly. Polly's grave was my destination.
I started digging, quickly. My mom grabbed my shoulders, but I tore myself away.
"What is wrong with you??" my mom shouted. I sobbed and fell into her arms. Barely audible, I asked her for a shovel. She refused and I croaked out an explanation, pointing furiously to the grave. A crowd of people had gathered around. Someone took a spade and dug up the coffin in which Polly was buried.
I ripped the coffin open, intent on proving my suspicion. Sure enough, there were scratches on the inside lid. Polly was gasping for air, looking wildly around. There was a hole in the side of the coffin, revealing dirt wet with ground moisture.
"What?" Everyone was asking, confusedly.
I explained, holding Polly's hand. "I kept seeing this girl, Priscilla, come to my classroom. Since she started arriving, I'd had nightmares. In the nightmares, Priscilla's clones told me that she was in a tight space, underground, suffocating. Then my mom told me about Priscilla's twin, and I thought, what if Polly was buried alive?"
Everyone was in awe. Polly weakly smiled. My mom conferred with a few other ladies, and then ran to the store. Polly said she'd survived by drinking her own blood and sucking the moisture out of the dirt.
My mom returned with food, which Polly ravenously devoured. She drank three water bottles in a row.
