Burst of Speed

I race down my street, dragging Josh and Dawn behind me.
"Care to explain!!" Josh screams over the wind rushing past as we sprint towards school.
"Later!!!" I shout back. Dawn reaches me and runs along side, Josh just behind.
"Jeez Josh, you're so slow," Dawn mutters.
"I heard that!"
"Good!!"

Panting and wheezing, the three of us reach school.
"Fay!" Dan exclaims. "You look like you just sprinted a marathon!!"
"Mum," I manage to say. Dan, Josh and Dawn all share the same worried looks. "Where's Autumn and Shannon?" I ask, regaining my breath.
"Autumn's sick and Shannon refused to come to school without her sister, she texted you, didn't she?" Dan replies. Josh's expression changes to unhappy as soon as Dan mentioned Shannon refusing to come to school. Jeez, it's obvious he likes her. I pat my pocket for my phone, a frown creeping across my face. Then I check my bag. No luck! Oh no. I must have left it at home! With mum! Worry surges through me as I place my head in my hands.
"Fay, is it at home?" Dan asks. I lift my head up and slowly nod.
"No matter!" I chime, forcing a smile onto my face. "I have a password on my phone, so mum can't do anything!" Dan frowns, before smiling and placing his hand on my shoulder. I wonder if he's still thinking about last night. Our first date. Dan leads me away from everyone.
"Do you think you could call me Daniel, instead of Dan?" He asks, blushing furiously.
"Why?" I ask.
"I, I like it better!" Dan, no sorry, Daniel blushes so much that he looks away.
"Okay!" If he likes it so much, why not make everyone call him that?
