Meeting Some New People
When I entered the ribbon shop the first thing I noticed was my sister following Henrietta around like a puppy. "Marie!" I exclaimed happily. "I see you met the lovely Henrietta. Oh, and our new friend, Raven." I picked up Marie. "Did you want something Marie?""I liked that ribbon!" Marie pointed to a lacy blue and pink streamer.
I laughed. "How am I not surprised? We shall wait for you to be done with Raven though, Miss." I said smiling at Henrietta.
Raven noticed me and said, "Oh, hello there." She looked back to Henrietta. "One yard, no more, no less, please, ma'am."
"Right away, Miss." Henrietta said carefully cutting the ribbon and packaging it in a small white box. "That will come to eight pence, Miss."
"Are you going to the balllllllllllllllll?" Marie said smiling gaily at Raven.
I laughs nervously at my little sister's silliness. "Marie, be polite."
Suddenly, a loud, blonde, and buxom girl burst into the room. "Hello People and Children-"
A small girl who I presumed to be her sister slapped her hand and squealed, "Woah, Shut up Lydia!"
My eyebrows raised and cautiously I said or more asked, "Hello?"
Henrietta seemed to ignore this pompous girl and said "I will help you in a moment. Miss Grace, how much ribbon do you need?"
Raven looked uncomfortable whilst paying for her ribbon. "Thank you. I must...err...go now!" she stuttered before running out of the shop.
"Goodbye, Raven! I'll see you tonight." I said waving goodbye. I turned back to Henrietta. "Half a yard split in two, please." While she cut it I looked back to the girl named Lydia. "I don't believe we've met." I put out my hand.
"Hello, My name is Lydia as you already know" She glared at her sister. "And this is my sister and brother!"
"Hey, I'm Diego, And I was forced by some one," returns the glares to Lydia who smiles innocently, "to come here"
"I'm Valentine and was also forced by the same person to come here!"
I stared at the children with mild horror and a lot of shock. "Well," I cleared my throat unimpressed, "isn't that nice.... Henrietta, how much will that ribbon be?"
"There you are. That's a shilling, Miss. I do hope your day is wonderful!" She waved a playful finger at Marie who giggled in response. She then bravely turned to Lydia but still nervously, "And what shall I fetch for you?"
"Sorry they weren't really kind, Guys off you go!" She said waving them off annoyed. "What's you're name?"
A little girl ran to Lydia and screamed, "Lydia! Angelo pushed me in the water!"
"Honey, tell Angelo Lydia said bring us home!" Lydia said.
"Thank you, Henrietta. And what do you say, Marie?" I asked still keeping an eye on the strange newcomer.
"Thank you!" she said playing with the ribbon excitedly.
"Now..." I said slowly. I watched Lydia warily and decided to stay to make sure she doesn't do anything crazy.
"I shan't fair lady. My mistress is nearby." Henrietta said also watching Lydia closely.
"Hello Henrietta! How are you today! And today i would like.......Nothing really i just came here." The girl said blushing.
"Miss, your sister is soaking! You should get her home and changed before she catches an illness." I said unable to stand it any longer.
Henrietta exhaled. "I am contented, my lady. You may do as you please."
Staring shocked at the lady, I barked, "Ma'am? Do you have a guardian to look over your siblings?"
Henrietta's worried voice broke through my veil of shock. " Goodness! What's going on out there?" She cried pointing at a commotion.
I followed her out and my eyes grew wide. "Oh my God! Is that---" Recognizing the familiar face I stood shocked. "It is." I hiked up my skirt and ran towards him with Marie following close at my heels.
