Midnight promises
I woke up again to Toni's hand on my shoulder. This time she had a blanket wrapped around her and the tears were running down her face. She was doing her best to suppress loud sobs. "'nother nightmare." She said. I blinked a couple of times to let my eyes adjust. I got up and grabbed her a tissue box. She sat down on the opposite side of the bed. "Thanks." She spited out before she sobbed again.
"What was it this time?" I asked. She didn't hesitate but in-between sobs she said, "I had to choose between him and you. He pulled a gun out and before I could say anything he shot you. I was about to run when I noticed that you were barely alive. You said something like, I never loved you enough to die. Then I woke up." I thought she was going to say more, maybe about the note I gave her but she didn't. I opened my arms and she climbed in. I moved her around until I was propped up on two pillows, her arms around my neck, and she was sitting in my extended legs. She buried her head in my chest.
"I don't know where that dream came from. I love you so much, never stopped. I don't know how I can prove that." I said a couple more things but she had already cried herself to sleep. I started to sing Moments anyways. It was more for me than for her.
I made a promise that night. I would never let her go, and I would do everything so that she would never doubt that I loved her. I also decided that she was depressed and not only probably needed a visit to the doctor but she needed a couple of days of her favorite things so that she would know she had reasons for living.
