Heart-to-Heart (Thank God Her Voice Is Deeper Than Her Sister's)
Being the more mature and level-headed twin, Azure let out a sigh, and grabbed one of her sister’s hands in her own. “Maybe you shouldn’t, but you can. You’re still the strong person you’ve been for the past four years.”
“Except I’m not strong at all. I’m the weakest kid ever mentally...I...I’m so close to losing it again.” Her hands shook. “I can’t let it take over, but I don’t think I can stop it, and I’m...scared…”
“I know you are...being afraid of something like this is...it’s okay…”
A few tears splattered onto the old Pokémon comforter clutched in her hands. She was breaking down. “It’s not. What if I go out there and just...snap? What if I hurt someone? What if I...what if I…”
Azure’s arms made their way around Violet’s shoulders cautiously, her voice soft and hopefully at least a little bit soothing. “You’re afraid that you might accidentally kill someone…” She sighed once again. “...we don’t even know if that’s what happened the first time. There’s no way of telling for sure. Anything could have done that to her…”
“...” Violet nearly crushed her sister in the hug that followed. She sobbed. “I was supposed to protect her and I c-couldn’t. What...what kind of friend am I..? What kind of...monster…”
“You’re not a monster, Vi! You’re just...a little unstable, that’s all. Our whole extended family is dysfunctional anyway, so it shouldn't--”
“Shut up.”
The blue-eyed girl flinched. When her sister’s anger was superficial, she would shout and scream and set things ablaze, but now? It was tranquil fury that signified true rage. She couldn’t say anything more.
“...he says I’m more human than I realize. That the only thing that could make me a monster is...is my instability. But...he’s way worse than I am. He’s practically insane, so...why doesn’t he think of himself as a monster..?”
“That’s...because he’s weird. You know that...and...and I…” Azure grit her teeth and cupped the other’s teary face in her palms, smiling sweetly. “I think you should ignore his mind games, and have some fun today. This is our family...they won’t judge you for what’s happened as long as you can explain.”
“Can I explain..? I’m not sure…”
“You’ve got this. I’ll help you,” murmured the sweet one. “Even if you trip and fall...I’ll be here to catch you.”
“...thank you.”
