Roarke: An Origin Story

Roarke: An Origin Story

In late Septemer of 1860, a young man by the name of Roarke Everitt attends a fancy house party with his family at the Cooper Mansion. A massacre ensues and he ends up murdered during it, or so he thought. Now he has a vendetta against the being who killed his parents in front of him with the help of his siblings. The story takes place during the 1860s. This story is a spinoff of a character from another series I'm currently working on. Feel free to leave any feedback or comment your opinions! The Rampage

Standing there over someone’s bloodied and mangled body was a tall dark figure. A demon of some sort, I figured. A demon who had my mother’s body in his arms and, what appeared to be, eating her. I was frozen in sheer horror, unable to move or even utter a sound. The body he was standing over was covered in nothing but blood. Blood had been spattered on the walls and floor all around them, as well. There were two bodies in the corner of the room covered in blood and limbs ripped off of their bodies. Part of a leg laid on the opposite end of the room from them, an arm on the table, and in another corner of the room was someone’s decapitated head. There was a body at the end of the wooden dining room table with its stomach ripped open and its intestines spread out all over the floor. It was a sight from the worst possible nightmare anyone could ever think of, and it made me feel nauseous. There was a smell of rust in the air now, as well. My mind screamed at me to run, but I was incapable of making myself move.
I heard the footsteps of someone running towards me, then heard the sound of my brother Jace calling out to me as he ran towards me.
“Roarke! What is it?” he yelled. His voice was full of urgency.
When Jace yelled, the demon turned its blood-crazed dark red eyes to me and let out a vicious snarl, bearing his elongated canine fangs to us. The creature’s mouth and face was contorted in sheer hatred and rage, and was completely covered in blood, which also ran down the front end of his fancy looking gray coat. His skin was paler than that of Zachariah’s, and Zachariah was the palest man I had ever seen in my life.
When the creature let out that snarl I snapped out of my trance and turned to Jace and yelled,” RUN”. I made a mad dash myself to the foyer with Jace right in front of me. I didn’t get far, unfortunately. The creature with demonic speed had caught me by the arm and threw me on the ground with unnatural strength. It, then, stomped on my left arm, shattering the bones entirely. I screamed out in agony and tried my best to crawl away. There was, now, screaming all around me and the sound of people’s feet thundering as they ran in whatever direction they could find to escape the demon. The creature grabbed me by the broken limb once more and hoisted me up. I let out another agonized scream, wishing that it would just kill me already. It eyed my face for a moment, then slid its horrifying eyes to my throat. It stood there holding me by the broken arm for a moment, just staring. Finally, it sank its long fangs into my throat. I screamed out once again in complete agony. Every second I felt weaker and weaker until, finally, it threw my body to the side. I slid into the wall and just laid there barely able to move. I could feel a warm liquid gathering under my face, which I soon realized was blood. I was bleeding out. So this was how it was going to end for me.
My head started spinning not long after that. Everyone’s screams rang through my mind still, making it harder than ever to think. I pressed my good hand to my throat to try and stop the bleeding as much as I could so that I could look around. It was getting harder for me to breathe now and gasping for air seemed to be a bit of a workout for me now, as well. There were bodies strewn all around me and blood covered every inch of the floor, almost. The smell of rust was even stronger now and it was making me more nauseous than I already felt. The screaming had grown fainter over time, too. I couldn’t find anyone that I recognized and it even appeared that I was the only one that was still alive in the foyer. Well, I wouldn’t be alive for much longer, anyway. I’m surprised that I haven’t died yet myself.
It was hard to think now, but every thought I had was of my family. Jace. Jace was in front of me. Did he make it out safely? What about my other brothers and sisters? Did they hear the screams and make it out as well, or did they get attacked as well? Did they even know about our parents’ demise yet? Oh, please, let them have made it out safely.
Then the only thing that went through my mind was,”I have to try. For them.” Since our mother and father were dead now, they relied on me and our brothers for their survival. I didn’t even know how I was going to try, but I knew for certain that even if I did, I wouldn’t survive no matter how hard I tried. But I couldn’t just give up.
I looked around the foyer as quickly as I could to make sure that the demon was gone now. The screams had finally died down completely, replaced by the sound of miserable groaning every once in a while from someone in the distance. The sounds of running have also died out as well. The almost complete silence was sickening and somehow, I felt myself at complete peace now. I felt super exhausted now from bleeding out too much. My head felt even lighter now and I felt numb, as well. I couldn’t really even feel the pain in my broken arm or throat anymore.
When I was certain that the demon was nowhere to be seen, it took everything I had to pull myself along the bloodstained floor with my good arm. I was crawling to the entrance door of the mansion weakly, groaning every time I pulled myself along further. I found myself having to pull myself over bodies with missing limbs, caved in skulls with bits of brain splattered all around them, bodies ripped in half with intestines smeared across the floor, and the like. But still, I forced myself to crawl forward with my one good arm. I had made it about halfway across the foyer until it felt like every muscle in my body gave out. I just laid there breathing raggedly and looking around for anything or anyone who may have come back. There was nothing, though, that could help me.
I felt completely numb. I just let my face rest against the cold hard wooden surface of the floor and let out a sigh. Oh, how I hope my siblings made it out alive and unscathed.
Eventually, I just let my eyes close and slowly, I drifted into the darkness.
