Mr. Patterson's Big Mistake

His eyes fluttered open with a squint in his eyes, from the bright yellow sunlight beaming in through the window. And as he began to regain focus upon his surroundings, he noticed the small red envelope protruding from underneath the door, for it had been a long time since he had received any kind of mail. As he began getting ready for the lengthy and strenuous day, he completely forgot about the parcel that was waiting for him. And as he walked around his small studio apartment, he suddenly caught a glimpse of the letter, and rushed over to see what awaited inside. As he swiftly opened the package, he pulled out a piece of paper with a golden coruscant stamp on it marked with the letter “B”. As he removed the seal from the paper, he began reading the letter with haste, and came across this;
Dear Mr. Patterson,                                                                                                                                                             .
We are pleased to inform you that Jarl of Barosvik, has invited you to his city for a private lunch, He has very important matters to talk to you about…
This is very urgent, so please join us at exactly 1:00 on Thursday, February 9th.                                                                                                               .
                                                                                                                  -Jarl’s Quarters

As he finished reading the note he began to think, as to why the Jarl wanted to speak to him, and he was astonished & confused at the same time, since it was only the 24th of January, which only made the wait longer.
And as the days passed slowly, Mr. Patterson had only become more eager to visit the Jarl, and then the day he awaited so long finally came…
The morning was extremely frigid and the wind was strong and the only thing that kept him moving was the thought of the food he would eat later that day, and the news he was about to receive. The trip was long and strenuous for he had to walk alone on the long journey, because his prime white stallion had become ill due to the abnormally cold temperatures that had been sweeping throughout the cities. As a result, the stallion had been resting at the medic’s stables for the past 4 days.
The easy part of the trip had come to a halt, and the rough path ahead awaited his every step, and challenged every muscle inside of his shivering cold body.. For it had been a long time since he had taken a trip this far outside of the city on foot. The path he had taken was clearly a very unused road, which had a lot of brown shriveled up shrubbery, thorns, dead animals, skeletons, and multiple buildings that were non-functional with missing windows, broken glass, and bricks laying all around. His journey had almost come to an end when he had noticed a small glowing light coming from inside a 2-story abandoned house. And his curiosity got the best of him, and as it slowly pulled him into the house, he stepped up the broken steps, and entered the door. But, as he entered the glimmering light seemed to be non-existent.
So, he looked around expecting a fire or a candle but it was just a small plain empty room with no defining features, and no stairs which confused him for he had been sure that it was a 2 story house.
And as he reached for the door lock the door was replaced with a brick wall, which accompanied the rest of the room. He turned around and suddenly and with no warning a hooded figure was sitting at a small short table with a candle-light, that gave off a glow that was almost blinding, but the man decided to sit down at the seat that was offered to him by the figure. The figure said one thing and one thing only, “If you wish to leave this place you will need to find the stairs,” and then as the raspy masculine voice faded off so did his figure, and the man was left with a key and a note. The note said:

He was puzzled and confused as to what the note meant, but had no way of gaining that knowledge, for he was now locked in a room with no escape. Mr. Patterson then looked all throughout the room, including examining the walls, as to if he thought that there would be anything, but there was only a strange disfigured button on the wall which he pressed multiple times, and to no avail was there any change in the situation of the room, for by now he had  tried everything..
But hidden underneath the small dilapidated rug there was a small door, which he found four and a half hours later, but he had no sense of time and had no idea that the banquet would start in less than one hour.
And as he noticed that the carpet was slightly raised in the middle he removed the old table which left off a crash on the other side of the poorly lit room, and he swiftly removed of the old rug, and with great excitement and fear, the man opened the door with a hard knock against the dusty floor, the contents inside were not expected...
