Skye suddenly began heaving. Alex wasn't sure if it was her crippling anxiety, or if the constant jostling of the horse made her sick. Both the mare and the rider squealed in disgust, and with a grunt, the rider shoved Skye off.
Alex caught her just before she hit the ground.
She cried out as Christopher began whipping her over the head with his riding crop. Each blow was loud enough to echo across the empty fields. Alex curled around Skye's limp body, trying to protect her from the beating.
The assasian turned around, satisfied.
Skye gazed up at Alex with half lidded eyes and mumbled something.
"What was that?" Alex leaned down so that she could hear better.
What she heard made her blood run cold.
"...kill...me..."
The woman jerked up, horror etched out on her face.
"Skye no, I will not do that! How could even ask me of such a deed?"
She shook her head as if Alex didn't understand. Speaking took all of her strength, and she slipper back into the realm of slumber.
Alex pulled Skye closer to her chest, more afraid than ever. Was Skye really in so much pain that she wished for death?
The woman couldn't imagine herself ending the blonde's life. But as Skye's best friend, wasn't that what she was meant to do? To make decisions that Skye alone couldn't make? She felt as if she was delaying the inevitable and forcing her friend to suffer needlessly.
Like watching a fish struggle to breathe on land.
She gazed helplessly into the sky.
"God...", she pleaded.
"Mother, father. Anyone, please help us."
