Roger did not like being a soldier. Before he joined the legion, he believed that it was going to be exciting and thrilling.
It was anything but.
When battles took place, he barely did anything interesting. He stood at the back of the group, waiting to see if he'd need to fight-- He never did.
And the things that he did outside of the battlefield were just as uninteresting. Sitting by the fire, eating whatever food that the generals had to offer, and simply worrying until he vomited were really all of the things that Roger did when he wasn't feeling useless at the back of the legion.
Being a soldier was hard work, indeed.
He liked it so much better when he was a child. His life before was actually quite similar to what he was doing currently.
He didn't like to think about the past. It sickened him.
He'd lost everything that he had, and he had no way to escape from the misfortune that had befallen him. The closest thing the soldier had to happiness was the ruins just south of the place where the soldiers had set camp.
Roger stood up and began to head south to the place where he could pick up the pieces of himself.
The Fairground Ruins.
The place was extremely nostalgic indeed. The rusted and no longer functioning Ferris wheel, especially so.
He couldn't explain why. The ferris wheel was haunting. Every time Roger gazed upon the rusted piece of architecture, he thought it got more beautiful.
What was at the top?, he wondered.
"But I...can't get up there.", he thought.
"Why do I feel this way...when I look up at that wheel?"
The man tried to shake the thoughts away from his head.
He didn't want to do this anymore. He wanted to be free. He felt simply awful about the whole situation. Roger didn't want to hide himself from Alex, but he was afraid of what would happen if that woman found out his true identity. She'd surely kill him!
"One of us has to go. It will be the only way to ensure the safety of the other. When the sky turns red, we will duel here. Whoever falls in battle will at least get the luxury of dying happy."
Roger thrust his sword into the ground and began to walk away, anxiety rising in his chest.
But he looked back a couple of times.
