The Animals
~Annabeth P.O.V~The ride was relaxing, thank you Percy. The wind in my hair temped the question in my head: why do dogs stick their tongues out the window? I tried and it felt weird and tingly. Percy started to slow down and my tongue was getting dry. He was panting,
"Are you pretending to be a dog to?" I asked, totally mystified. He dropped me on the floor making sure I was on my feet, then turned around and looked at me funny. Leo was too.
"Are you feeling okay?" Percy asked. I frowned at him.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I frowned. He bit his lip.
"You... You're." He paused, "You're being a bit of an airhead." He finished quickly and winced backwards. I blinked at him a few times, trying to process those words. I looked up and was distracted by the clouds. They were really pretty with the sun behind them. One of them looked like a bunny, and one next to it looked like a bear. They way they were moving made it look like the bunny was attacking the bear. A smile slid across my face and I smiled at the clouds.
"What's so funny?" Percy asked. I laughed harder.
"Vicious bunny." And I almost fell on the floor laughing so hard. Leo looked at me funny, then at Percy.
"I didn't act like that, did I?" He looked at me and his face looked like the weak cloud bear.
"No." Percy reassured him. I caught my breath and jumped back on Percy. He pushed me off.
"Leo's turn." He shoved me in Leo's direction. Leo sighed and bent over, so I ran over and jumped on. I let out a little squeal and yelled,
"Giddy up!" And Leo sighed and started galloping. Percy had to run to keep up.
"Faster!" I yelled and laughed some more. I knew he could run faster. Leo looked at Percy and he nodded, and Leo sped up a lot. No, I chided myself, think like an Athena kid. Ummmmm. He increased his speed by... um, forty percent? That was more than half, right? My brain hurt.
I tugged on the hood of Leo's jacket and he slowed down enough for me to jump off.
"I wanna see the sunset." I declared, then promptly laid on the floor and looked at the sky. The sun was just touching the horizon.
Percy caught up panting, and looked at me.
"Not again." He sighed.
"It's pretty. Come lay down." I pat the ground next to me and Percy sighed and laid down. I smiled at him and rolled over to face him. His face was full of worry.
"I'm sorry for being an airhead." I whispered. He reached up and stroked my hair out of my face.
"It's not your fault."
"Yes, it is. I should have studied harder that night. And make my -uh- expand my vocabulary." He smiled at my trying to use big words.
"Hey, Annabeth?"
"M hmm?"
"What's two plus two?" I resisted the urge to say fish. One, two, three four...
"Four." I said after a few seconds. Percy laughed.
"I'm so stupid."
"It's okay, Annabeth. I'm just worried about what will happen to me when I'm the 'Hero'."
"You already are." I leaned in closer to him and we watched the sun sink below the horizon.
