"CRACK"
Sapphire eyes widened as he realized what his friend had just done. Thousands of shimmering pieces of glass littered the ground. Link glanced up at the area where the Twili princess had been standing just seconds ago. Nothing. Midna had returned to her kingdom, never to return to the realm of light again. The twilight hero darted forward, insanity flickering in his expression."MIDNA" he screamed. Suddenly, Link collapsed onto the ground, struggling to conceal the choked sobs trying to escape his mouth. "Midna..." he whispered, a single tear slipping down his cheek.
He tried to piece the mirror's shards together, the sharp edges piercing through his exposed skin. Crimson rivers seemed to flow from the gashes, yet Link didn't show any signs of physical pain. He glanced up with tear filled eyes. "Why?" Link called into the desert. "Why!?"
Over the next few weeks, everything began to return to normal. Hyrule Castle Town blossomed with life, and even the castle wall, which had been completely demolished by the fallen stone turrets, had nearly been restored to its original state. Yet Link's entire world seemed to be caving in on itself. It had taken quite a bit of convincing to talk him into leaving the Arbiter's ground. Link roamed the streets as a Poe might have, engaging in none and seeing nothing. Day after day, this repeated. Until the man returned to the Arbiter's ground once again.
Link was kneeled on the ground.
Picking up--no, collecting shards from the shattered mirror.
With already bloodied hands...
Just a few days later, he returned to the village of Ordon. At long last, a smile could be seen upon the hero's face, his fingers intertwined with a Twili hand extending from the glass slivers that rested in his palm. It was a glorious sight; Kindred spirits, forever separated, yet at the same time forever intertwined.
