The Last One
"Your final trial you must face,
If you want to end this chase,
In front of you are two golden doors,
You have to pick one;
The choice is yours
One door has a picture
Of a jaguar
The other has a cheeta
It will go far
You must ask the guards,
But try to be wise,
For one tells the truth,
And one always lies.
And heres one thing
To add to your strife
One door leads to death
And the other, to life
Trust yourself, or you may end up dead
What will you choose for the path that lies ahead?"
You set your jaw and breathe in deeply.
Your last chance.
You have to make it.
You try to remember where you have heard this before. What IS the answer? You have a vague idea of it, but you're not completely sure.
You walk up to one of the guards.
"Excuse me," you say, "If I were to ask the other one of you what the door to life is, what would he say?"
The guard looks at you and answers, "He would say, 'the door to life is the one with a cheetah on it.' "
You look at him and nod. "Thanks."
You try to recall some of the things in the riddle.
One door has a picture
Of a jaguar
The other has a cheetah
It will go far
Aha. Theres something. So, You think, I have to go to the door with the jaguar on it. I have to do the opposite to what the guard says.
You walk up to one of the doors and examine it. You are satisfied when you see a picture of a big cat with spots on it. On it's face are two lines from it's eyes to it's mouth, but you take no notice of that.
Here it is, you think, the door with the jaguar on it.
There is something lingering at the back of your mind, though.
You pause.
Ah, well, you think, I'm sure it doesn't matter, and you push the gate open and walk through it.
