In the Judge's room
You drop the towel and open the door. You go through it.You are now in a completely different room. You look around to see what it is. Suddenly a loud bang sounds. You jump and look to where it is coming from.
In front of you, you see an audience. And there is a man with a grey wig on at a desk.
With a gavel in his hand.
You are in court.
"SILENCE!" yells the judge.
You see yourself in the shiny wood of his table. That voice comes again, but with different words:
"A man was to be sentenced to 6 years
But he begged to go free, rather than face his fears
The judge said, 'No, but because you pled
You may make a statement, in your stead
If it is true, then you may receive
4 years and then you shall leave
But if it is false, then you shall get
The 6 years, the original debt.'
The man said his statement
And after some thought
The judge actually decided
For him to have naught
So he let him go free
And now, you see
You must figure this out,
This single doubt
And the question I ask is...
What did the man say?"
You listen closely until the end. Your brain starts turning. So does your stomach.
"Okay, kid, I am going to give you a deal." the judge says, turning to you. "I will let you make a statement. If it is true, then I will let you only have four years. If you lie, you will have the originally planned six years. Got it? Now... What is your statement?"
You think hard. You think of all the riddles you know. You have heard this one before.
"Well?"
"My statement is..." you pause, and bite your lip. You think even harder. Then... Yes! You remember what it is!
"You will sentence me to six years!" you say bravely. The judge stares at you. "But... That is impossible. I do not know if you are lying or not!"
"Exactly." you smile.
The judge studies you. "You know what..." he says carefully, "You don't look like much of a criminal anyway. And that's a bl**dy good brain you got there."
One of the women sitting on the side gasps. "Sir!" she says, "You're not suggesting we let him go free?!"
"Maybe I am." The judge retorts. Then he smiles to you. "You can go, sonny." he winks and you see another door appearing.
"Thankyou!" you croak as you run for it.
