rescue
It was a few days later. It happened in the middle of the night. Darkness had closed in on me. Then I heard the shout. Eric had been bitten by a black widow. I ran overlike I was a lightning bolt. He had been checking our coconut bowls, but he accidentally tripped on a root, falling into the spider’s home. The venom spread like flu in the
winter. Suddenly, Crash! Lightning had struck a tree, sending a wave of needles in all directions. Fire snaked across the grass. I managed to drag Eric to the sand. The Fire
rose until smoke covered the whole island. Completely freaking out, I thought nothing good could come from this situation. Unlike me, Eric saw the fire for the miracle it
was, a signal. About a day passed, and a plane finally arrived. This time, the plane noticed us. “What are you kids doing out in an island off the coast of the Caribbean?”
“About to be rescued,” said Eric.
