chapter 3

VALERY’S POV.

The next morning I shot a text to Drew to come over. We watched a movie, and he finally met Uncle Riley. The conversation went like this:

Me: This is my boyfriend, Drew Donovan.

Riley: This boy better not be like Kale.

Drew: No, sir.

Riley: What’d you know about Kale?

Drew: He wasn’t a good man to your niece, sir. But, I’m different, I swear.

He’d smiled and shook hands with him, a strong grip. Indicating if he had lied to him, he’d hurt Drew. I didn’t doubt him.

Now, Drew and I sat on the couch, munching on popcorn when the doorbell rang.

“I’ll get it. Stay here.” I planted a kiss on his lips and walked out to the door. I swung it open, and my smile fell. A dark figure leaned against the door frame, a leather jacket, white tee, worn blue jeans and low motorcycle boots. A signature look on someone I only knew.

Kale.

A smirk played on his lips, his brown eyes watching me. I gasped and he ran a hand through his short blackish hair.

“Hey, Clash.” He said in a deep sexy voice, and I knew I wasn’t dreaming.

“Kale.” I gasped. “H-how did you get here? How did you find me?” I felt confused and hurt.

“I came to bring you home with me.” He stood up from the door frame, leaning dangerously close to me. I was paralyzed.

Like hell , “Get out of here.” I started to shut the door.

He braced a hand on the door, stopping it, “Hear me out.”

“Hear you out?! Are you kidding me?” I strained to shut the door again.

“Just- let me right myself.”

“Go to Hell.” I felt tears spring to my eyes. I had always dreamed of seeing him again, and blowing up in his face, but now that he was here, I couldn’t keep control on myself.

“Clash, please.” Kale looked desperate, and I hurt all over again, remembering what he did- stop. Rage washed through me.

“If you think you can just come here, and try to win me over, you’re wrong. So wrong.” I didn’t yell at him. I wouldn’t let him have that satisfaction.

He still flinched as if I did yell at him. I watched his expression, and his eyes shot up to something behind me. I turned around quickly, hand still on the doorknob.

Drew.

I started to panic. Drew and Kale in the same room, me in the middle. This was exactly like the nightmare I had the other day. They had a full blown fight, and in the end I had to choose the one who survived it. Kale won.

I swallowed, “Drew, can you give me a minute?”

Drew’s gaze dropped down to me. Usually he looks at me with love and trust, but now there was rage and confusion mixed in his eyes. “Who’s this?”

“Yeah, Clash, who’s that?” Kale’s voice came from behind me.

“No one.” I said to both of them.

“Really? I’m no one?” Drew raised his eyebrows.

“Yes, I mean, no. You are someone, but I just-" I fiddled with the hem of my shirt, struggling. “Look, I need to talk to Kale.” I paled, realizing I just said his name.

Drew’s body grew stiff, and his biceps bulged when he crossed his arms, “This is Kale?”

“I, uhm, yeah.” I threw a glance back to Kale.

Kale’s expression was cool, and the same smirk played on his lips. “That’d be me.”

Drew took a step forward, and Kale straightened. I froze, not knowing what to do. Just like my dream , I thought.

“What’s your problem?” Drew’s voice came out taunt, and I noticed he had an inch or two on Kale. But Kale was stronger, even if he didn’t look it.

“My problem? Dude, I think you’re overreacting a bit. I just came to apologize to Clash, and take her home with me.”

Drew looked back down at me, and I just chewed my lip.

Drew looked back up at Kale and laughed, “Really? You thought that would work? Just apologize, make everything better, take her home and live happily ever after? You really are stupid.”

A muscle jumped in Kale’s jaw. He grins, “Yes.”

I don’t think that was the reaction Drew wanted. He took another step toward Kale, fists clenching. I step between them, finally unfrozen.

I put my hands on Drew’s chest. “Drew, stop.”

Kale chuckles behind me, “You better keep your boyfriend on his leash.”

Drew growled.

“Ooh, so scary. You gon’ bite me?”

I pushed Drew back, and turned to Kale, “Knock it off, Kale.” I start to close the door.

“I still have to talk to you.” Kale lowered his voice.

“Like hell, you will!” Drew shouts.

I shush him, “Where?”

“I passed a café on the way here. So go there. Tomorrow. At the time our band used to practice, so pretty babe over here won’t know when to stalk us.” Kale grins at Drew.

Drew started to push past me and I slammed the door. I kept my back to Drew, trying to catch my breath. He was strangely quiet. I turned slowly and leaned against the door. Tears are stinging the back of my eyes.

Drew stares at the ground, jaw working when he says, “You’re meeting him, aren’t you?” He looks up.

I look away from gaze, “I…I don’t know. Apart of me wants to know what he has to say. And another…”

“Another part wants to smash his face in?”

I look up at him sharply, he shrugs, “You can’t hide your expressions well when you’re worried or anxious.”

“I don’t want to.”

“Then don’t.” His sentence came out sharp.

“But I want to know what he wants to talk about.” I chewed my lip.

“So?”

“So, I was wondering if you could possibly meet him.” I clicked my tongue piercing against my teeth.

Drew stared at me, eyes slighted narrowed, “You’re asking me to cover you for a guy who broke your heart?”

“Yes.”

Drew glared at me, his posture stiff. He chewed the inside of his cheek, and then he posture sagged, and I knew I got him.

“Fine. As long as it keeps you away from him for now.”

I throw my arms around him and plant a kiss on his cheek. “Thank you, Drew.”

Drew hugged me back, and I knew this turn of events wasn’t going to turn out well.
