"Then why would she do that?" Aiko asked. Mom begun to tell the legend..."Kuchisake Onna was a pretty girl that lived in a village in Japan. She would ask the villagers "Am I pretty?" and the villagers would reply "Yes!" happily. This made her confident and married a samurai, but her husband found out. He asked the samurai why he married her and not other girls. The samurai then said that she was the prettiest girl in the village. Without Kuchisake Onna's beauty, she would be nothing. The samurai angrily took his sword and slit her mouth, making her ugly. After that, she took a gun and killed herself. After she died, her soul was banished to eternity of avenging her own pain, and possessing a body and making it look like her."
