POV: Azai (2)
We walked again for hours. The mountain seemed to be far away still. How were we ever going to get to the monster? Zara still hasn't spoken. I'm scared. Not of what's happening. Of what may happen. Not of her. Of what may be her. I don't see fear when I look at her. I see courage. I see determination. I wonder what she sees in me. Scared? Weak? She still doesn't talk, leaving the forest to fill my ears. The sound of birds chirping. The sound of wind. The sound of--- there was a scream coming from some village nearby. I ran, dropping my bag and almost tripping on a large root from the old trees. I hear my sister calling for me, but it's all a blur. The only thing I hear is a scream. The only thing I hear is the pounding from the running beast. I run into the village. I'm too late.
