Brave little leaf
Note: Creative writing assignment. 2022Stepping outside,
A breeze surrounds me.
Calm air, quiet noise.
Silence that ends so loudly.
My thoughts run away
Leaving me behind,
With just me, myself, and I.
Nothing to worry about,
No ways to worry.
Nothing to be stressed out about,
No ways to be stressed.
Brain empty,
Enjoy outside.
It won’t last forever.
Walk, walk, walk
No noise, nothing.
It’s quiet, it’s calm.
Sure, there’s people around
But we’re all quiet.
I notice a tree.
Many leaves.
Many, many leaves.
One unique leaf catches my eye.
It’s on the edge of a branch,
Just barely hanging on.
Debating if it should leave.
Will it make the right decision?
Or what even is the right decision?
What does the leaf want to do?
Is the leaf going to let go?
Is it even the leaf letting go?
Or is it the tree?
Once friends who were so well-known.
They want to part ways
But can they?
Or do they need assistance from the wind?
Which one is letting go?
Why are they letting go?
The wind creates a cool breeze once again.
The leaf has let go, or maybe the tree;
But both are now separated.
Will they regret the decision later in life?
It’s been decided.
It falls calmly to the ground.
Must’ve been the leaf’s decision, to let go of the tree.
Being guided by the wind, gracefully away
From now an old friend.
It made a decision not all those leaves have made.
Maybe I should too.
It’s so small compared to that tree.
How did it make a decision so big?
Did it even want to be there from the beginning,
Feeling like it was trapped until the end?
Good job, little leaf.
Congratulations, little leaf.
Brave little leaf.
