Powers
I flail as I fall through the air. Wind rushes past my ears. I wildly attempt to grab onto the rock wall. But instead of grabbing it, water flows out of my hand. Suddenly, there is over 8 feet of water on the canyon floor. I hold my breath and plunge into the water.Luckily, I am a very good swimmer. I make it to the wall in no time. Looking up, I see Kyle snap his fingers and I'm standing on the top with him. Surprisingly, I'm not even wet.
"What.... was that??" I ask. Kyle grins.
"You used your powers. Your element is water, you see, and you can breathe underwater, shoot water from your hands, and swim incredibly fast."
I slap my forehead with my palm. "Can someone please explain to me what in the world is going on?"
Trixie comes up to me. "Watch this!" she says, then takes off running in one direction.
"She's really fast!" I exclaim, seeing nothing but a cloud of dust in her wake. Someone taps me on the shoulder and I turn around.
"I just ran around the world! Isn't that so cool?" Trixie asks. I gape at her in astonishment. Then, she does something even more astounding.
I watch as Trixie propels herself upwards and hovers in the air. She's flying - like a bird! I rub my head and chew on my lip.
Carl walks up to me. My eyes widen as I notice how the ground freezes under his feet with every step he takes. "I'm ice," he says.
Two other kids demonstrate their powers. One of them - a boy named Charlie - can summon a wolf, climb super fast, and is incredibly strong. The other - a girl named Rhonda - can shoot fire from her hands, walk in a blazing fire without getting hurt, and make a volcano shoot up from the ground.
"What's your element?" I ask Kyle.
He smiles. "Space," he says. "I can teleport to and from objects, make others teleport to me, and make objects move with my mind."
"That's so cool!" I exclaim. Then I remember the clock in the sky he called 'Matt.' "What's Matt's element?"
Kyle squints up at Matt, who lazily drifts around. "Um... his element is time. He can time travel, erase memories, insert memories, and alter time."
I shake my head in disbelief. "What's the school for?" I ask.
"That is only for the highly elite." says a voice. I whirl around and see a tall, lanky teen with braces looking at me with his hands on his hips. He notices me staring. "I'm Jason, and my element is wisdom. Nice to meet you. I can hypnotize people, make people fall asleep, control emotions, and even give infinite knowledge." Jason grins, and his braces flash in the sunlight. "Anyway, that school is only open to people with elemental powers - and you have to pass an initiation test to get in. Actually, it's a series of tests. But I got in, and I'm a mentor now. I'll show you to your rooms."
