Artemis and Apollo
-Percy-I wasn't tired at all. I spent a few hours pacing my room (stupid ADHD) and thinking about nothing. I finally got bored and decided to take a walk. My instincts told me to go to the forest, and I've learned to trust them. I bobbed my way through the trees, following my instincts. After a while, I knew where I was headed. I'd been in this forest so many times I'd be a fool not to know that I was going to the clearing.
I saw a bright flash of light ahead of me followed by a scream. I ran faster, stumbling as I pushed through the brush. I tumbled into the clearing next to two people who I immediately recognized as Artemis and Apollo. They were leaning over a little girl- Jenna. I burst out into open space so they could see me. I knelt down next to her.
"What happened?" I asked. Even though I'd only known Jenna a couple of hours, I felt like she was my responsibility. The twins didn't seem to hear my question. I guess she was Apollo's daughter, so he'd be worried. But the weird thing is that I saw more worry in Artemis's face than his. I also realized that Artemis's face was seventeen. That was unusual.
My brain suddenly put the puzzle pieces together. The bright light, the scream. One of the twins had gone into their divine form in front of Jenna. I didn't know how she wasn't incinerated right now. Another thing popped into my mind when Artemis started yelling at Apollo to help her.
"She doesn't look hurt." I commented. That seemed to get their attention. Apollo put a hand on her chest.
"No, she doesn't." He agreed. Artemis looked unbelieving.
"But... She can't. She saw me. She should be dead." She sounded baffled.
"So you want your daughter to die? I don't blame you." Apollo joked. Wait... did he just say...?
"ARTEMIS'S daughter?" I was confused now. Artemis shot me a 'shut up or I'll hurt you' look, so I did.
"Yes." Apollo clarified, "She's been a naught, naughty girl..." He smiled, but she scowled at him. Jenna started to stir. That got Artemis's attention. She shook her, and Jenna's eyes opened slowly. She groaned.
"Impossible..." Artemis whispered. Apollo grinned.
"Apparently not." He laughed and put a hand on Janna's forehead. "Only slightly charred interiors. Good news: she isn't dead. Obviously" Jenna tried to sit up, but Apollo made her sit back down.
"Am I on fire?" She croaked wearily.
"Nope." Apollo and Artemis said at the same time. Their voices together were like when two microphones get too close together and make that high pitched screech. It didn't sound like that, but it gave the same effect to my brain. I winced and covered my ears.
"Sorry." They both said at the same time, and gritted my teeth and closed my eyes hard. Jenna didn't seem fazed at all. She just looked up at all of us. She didn't look scared or confused.
"Looks like children of Artemis are powerful. Lots of withstance to godly idiosyncrasies." Apollo sounded more like Athena. I gave him a funny look and he sighed.
"She can survive overdoses of ambrosia and nectar, she can look at gods in our divine forms, she can listen to us talk together." I nodded, understanding slowly.
"Why'd you claim her?" I asked Apollo.
"Because Artemis didn't want to." He said giving Artemis a look. "Also, she doesn't have a sign to put above her head. So I sort of had to." I nodded.
"I... Where. What year is it?" Jenna whispered.
"Seriously?" Apollo laughed. Artemis elbowed him in the gut.
"2014." Artemis answered sensibly. Jenna shook her head.
"No. I was just awake. This happened before. It's 2022." Only Apollo looked like he knew what was going on as his face grew grim.
