Marcus is the one who helps Kathryn gets her powers in the first place. He is the only person who knows that she is who she is. He wants to be closer to her but never understands why. He met Kathryn in 2013 when he was sent on a mission to turn her into a mermaid. He was turned into a merman by a girl 2 years younger than him about 3 years ago. He got his powers 2 years ago on the same day he became a merman. Once he meet her he knew her spark had to be discovered.
