Chapter 5
Dawn smiled at the sun and breathed in the fresh air. This would be her third time in the courtyard. Every time, she was in her Pegasus form, not really figuring out how to change back. Following behind her was Emerald Armor, Daring Flight and Dusk. Dusk wasn't in much luck. She stayed inside for the Past couple of weeks, and had to get her mother in their, to change her into her Earth Pony form. She was in slight Gloomy mood."Come on, Dusk!" Dawn cheered. "Feel the Wind!"
"The wind feels fine, Thank You very much." Dusk slowly followed, jumping a few seconds.
They silently slid out of the Courtyard, acting as if they didn't come from there.
"Can we stop at The Library?" Dusk asked, watching the Ponies around her. Her head was just keeping her hair out the ground.
"Sure." Dawn said. "But you need to live out of books."
"Books are good."
"O-kay."
Dawn bounced once, before pulling her wings out and starting to hover. Daring Flight almost commanded her to land, but thought against it. It didn't take Dawn much time to look onto to another storefront.
"Canterlot Carousel," she said, reading the store sign. She turned around with a smile. "Can we go inside?"
Daring Flight was about to retort, but Emerald Armor cut him off.
"Only to look."
Dawn landed and trotted over, making sure her companions were following. All four of them couldn't help but marvel at the inside. But Daring Flight didn't show it.
"Rarity!" Dawn shouted, spotting a White Mare in the store.
"How are you, darling?" Rarity asked. "And who is with you?"
"This is my sister Dusk, and.. um.. my brother Emerald Armor. You already saw the other one. He is another brother, Daring Flight."
Dusk looked at her sister. "Dawn, I.."
She cut herself off, when another pony came to the store. She was a faded blue mare, with wavy, two-toned mane. Her fluffy tail hid her Cutie Mark. She looked at Dawn and Dusk, before looking at Rarity.
"Can you help me find a dress for the Gala?"
"Of course, Darling!" Rarity burst out. "It's a pleasure."
The mare left with a grateful smile on her face.
"What is the Gala?" Dawn asked.
Rarity had a surprised look. "Don't you know what the Gala is?"
"Since I am really bad at socializing." Dawn snapped.
"Well, if you ask me, it is a social gathering of princesses every year."
Before Dawn tried to continue her conversation, a bold voice, more like a command, was heard.
"It's time to leave." It was Daring Flight.
"Are you a member of Royalty?" Rarity asked with a suspicious look.
"No, no! Um.. Actually, my brother had always wanted to join the E.U.P guards, so he is training. You are hundred percent talking the opposite of what I was thinking."
Before Rarity could respond, they left the Boutique. She could hear a faint "bye" and a sound of the door closing.
*****
Dawn was thinking all about the "Social Gathering".
"It is a royal celebration, and I was not told about it, as if forever! Why have we never heard of it?" she looked at the others.
"It indeed, as the white mare said, is a grand celebration, held every year at the castle and something." Daring Flight explained. "And we do not know why they hid both of you from the place where the celebration is going on."
"What do ponies do at that time?"
"They sing, dance, hand over treats, listen to music, or explore the gardens of Canterlot. Ponies really enjoy it."
"Why is it celebrated?"
"I can't tell the long history, right now. Ask your mothers, they will be able to give brief and precise description of the celebration."
"And have you ever been there?"
"We E.U.P guards are always busy protecting the castle from enemies. We never have fun in the gala."
"That doesn't sound right. Everyone needs equality."
"We can, but it is like a flaw in our personalities, as it may mean that we have less dedication to our duties."
"Oh.." Dawn replied. The world was really strange. Will she be ever able to get it onto her hooves?
