Father's Day Poem
I hope I told you today,
I love you.
You tell the best stories, give me hugs, and help me get over whatever I've been experiencing.
You are the butterfly that lands on my windowsill at night and stares at the candlewick until it goes out, and tells a story with the frantic flapping of it's wings against the glass pane, company that lulls you to sleep.
You are my biggest admirer, and you think all the haters who hate me and are disgusted by the thought of just hugging me, they are just confused admirers.
I hope you are right.
You accompany me on my darkest days, make the clouds fly away and bring out a golden sun that warms me and you while we talk on the porch steps, sipping lemonade and wondering really random things, but they still make you laugh.
Everything about boys/girls comes from you, (Girl version: even though my mother knows what it's like to be dumped) (Boy version: because you were once in my shoes).
You are a light, a flame being kindled in the very heart of a room,
You are the moon, a tiny sliver of light shining in the dark night,
And you are my bed, warming me and comforting me when I'm cold.
I love you, dad, and I always will.
