chapter 4
*Mitsuki's POV*I was shocked to see a guy wrapped in a baby blanket. I slowly took in his shaggy black hair and flawless pale skin. Even though his hair looked oily and dirty, I could just imagine him with clean silky hair. He might actually not even need a haircut if he washed his hair. My gaze lowered to his eyes, they were a beautiful dark blue almost gray color. When I continued to observe his face, I saw that he really needed a shave- he had a small beard growing. Ugh I can't stand facial hair! I prefer a man with smooth cheeks so when I kiss him it doesn't tickle. Wait! Why am I even thinking that? I only just saw him and now I'm thinking of making out with him! Ugh! That is so wrong. But he doesn't seem to be so old-looking. Maybe a year or two older? Wait, no! Snap out of it Mitsuki! Focus and think about what you're going to do next. A: Scream B: Run up stairs and call the police or C: Ask his name.
*3rd Person POV*
Before Mitsuki could make up her mind, a somewhat husky and low voice pierced the air.
"Can you stop glaring at me, please?"
"Um....do...you want some...bacon?" Mitsuki asked, a blush creeping up on her face.
(Mitsuki's thoughts)
OMG was I staring at him this whole time? And what was that? Did I just ask him if he wanted bacon? OMG I hope he doesn't notice me blushing. I only had 3 choices to make and this is what I decided to choose!? Choice letter D. Ask a complete stranger that is in my basement if he wanted bacon! Get it together Mitsuki! Okay, just act cool and ask for his name the order him to leave.
*3rd Person POV*
The voice interrupted her thoughts once again.
"Thanks so much. I'm starving!" The hobo said with a somewhat relieved look on his face. "I thought you were going to run away screaming again. Or worse, go off and call the cops."
Mitsuki, still shocked by her last action, slowly took out the bacon that was wrapped in a napkin and extended it out to the hobo.
"Um, here. It's turkey bacon, I was going to eat it but I hate turkey."
After a few minutes of an awkward silence that was filled with just the hobo munching on the bacon, he finally interrupted. "I won't bite you know? You can relax I'm not going to attack you or anything. I was just tired and wanted to rest but it started to snow. Then I noticed this door open and came down here to sleep for a few days. That's all."
Mitsuki stayed silent for a few more minutes before mustering up the confidence to speak, "You can stay to sleep here, but first you need to tell me your name, why you have no home, and how old you are."
"It's rude not to introduce yourself before you ask for someone's name." The hobo frowned, but continued after noting Mitsuki's determined expression, "Based upon certain circumstances, I can't tell you my name. You can just call me anything. Let see, I'm eighteen and the reason I have no home must remain unknown for the same reasons why I couldn't tell you my name. What I can tell you though, is it's sort of a family problem," the hobo paused, "Based on what I've just told you, I can understand why you wouldn't trust me but please let me stay here a while more and I promise you that you will be rewarded by your actions."
"So let me get this straight. First, you didn't tell me anything except how you got into my basement. Second, you tell me to trust you and ask to stay even though you are not in a position to ask for things. And last of all, you tell me you are going to somehow pay me back even though you have no money. Great, just great. Regarding what you've told me, I can assume you're either completely stupid, you're a rich boy who ran away from home because of "daddy issues", you're a really bad person like from the mafia or something and went into hiding when you tried to overthrow your boss, or that I'm a complete idiot for what I'm about to say. You can stay but only for a couple of day."
This time it was the hobo's turn to be shocked. He couldn't believe that the girl was letting him stay.
He then warily asked her, "Why?" afraid that she might suddenly change her mind and call the cops. He couldn't afford to be found by "those guys" in a weak state like this one. He had to rest to get his strength back.
"I actually don't know why, but I just have a feeling that I can trust you. I know that sounds strange and I don't usually follow my 'feelings' but usually I regret it afterwards so I guess I'm going to trust them and let you stay. But let me warn you, If I get a bad feeling about you or see that you're acting suspiciously I will call the cops without hesitation." Mitsuki stated, crossing her arms.
The hobo released his breath that he didn't even notice he was holding. With a smile on his face he pushed his hair out of his face. "I can't believe you're letting me stay. You have my thanks and I promise to show you that you can trust me."
A smile slowly appeared on Mitsuki's face and her body relaxed a bit. "Well I guess I will call you H, for hobo. I know my naming skills suck but it's better than just hobo or Mr. Hobo."
H looked a little displeased with his new name but decided to put up with it.
"So can I have some more bacon?" he joked with a smile.
"Ha what about a real breakfast? How long has it been since you ate something decent?"
"Maybe a few weeks or so." H replied, embarrassed.
"But first you need a shower and new clothes. You really stink. I think we have a guys clothes here somewhere. All the boxes you see are from my aunt's place. They won't need them for a while so it's okay to use this stuff."
H tilted his head back and laughed heartily. "Wow it's been a while since I laughed like this. Do I really smell that bad that you're willing to let me shower?"
"Well what do you expect? You smell worse than when my older brother used to come back from soccer practice. Also I was just trying to be nice!" Mitsuki answered with a pout.
"He used to? What happened? Did he quit?" H asked with curiosity.
Suddenly, the atmosphere didn't feel so light anymore.
"No...he's in heaven now." Mitsuki answered with a whisper. Trying to change the subject off her family's past she quickly stated that her sister should be leaving soon to take her younger brother to the park.
"I will go check up on them. You can check the boxes to see what you find. I will be back in a few minutes." Mitsuki turned to leave but she felt a hand grip her arm. She turned back around to be met with H staring at her with a worried look.
"You won't call the cops right? You can trust me right?" H whispered, frightened.
Mitsuki gave him a reassuring smile and placed her hand on his grip. "Yes, you can trust me. I will be back in a few minutes. I promise."
H slowly smiled back and let go of her. "I'm sorry I suddenly grabbed you. I should trust you a bit more like you're trusting me."
"Okay then it's settled. I will see you in a bit then."
Mitsuki left to go upstairs, leaving behind a somewhat worried H.
(H's thoughts)
She won't call them will she? No, stop worrying. She trusted you! Why can't you trust her? I really want to but I have had too many people lie to me... All I can do now is just look for clothes to change into and have faith that she won't call the cops. I have a feeling I can trust this girl. I just hope my feeling is right.
