Chapter Six
A week passed, I had not answered Surge’s question. I didn’t know whether to say yes or no. I was looking for a job and Surge was paying for the rent. I had told Sapphire what had happened, and as always she was extremely supportive, immediately signing me up to job seeking websites and uploaded my CV.“There’s no need to get too upset about it girl! It was only at the coffee shop down the road! There’ll be plenty of jobs that will accept you, I’m sure of it!”
“Thanks Sapph…” I sighed, I knew I wouldn’t get any jobs since I just didn’t have the grades. To be honest, I was a slacker in school, I didn’t really care about school. But now, If I could relive the days in which I was at school, I wouldn’t slack as much because now I know how important it is.
It was started to get dark, and as always, I walked out onto the balcony and looked up. The stars were only just beginning to show and the sky was only just started to darken.
“Maria, your phone is ringing!” Sapphire’s soft and gentle voice rang through my ears and I bolted into the living room and picked up my phone, looking at who was calling. Surge? Why was he calling? I answered the phone, a little confused as to why he was ringing.
“Hello?”
“Hi Maria! Just wanted to ask if you’re okay… I haven’t heard from you for a while…” Oh god! I forgot to text Surge back earlier when he asked whether I wanted to go on a walk with him tonight.
“Oh yeah, I’m fine. Sorry I forgot to text back, I was busy looking for jobs and completely forgot. Of course I will come on a walk with you tonight.” I wondered out onto the balcony and looked up at the brightest of stars. Hang on, the sky is so clear and I… I can sort of make out what is written…. Cer… Cavo… Amore? Cercavo Amore? Isn’t that Italian for “I was looking for love”?
“That’s great! I’ll come by your house now and get you!” And then he hung up. That means I have less than five minutes to get ready! I ran to my room and ran around it, trying to find some clothes to wear. I wanted to look nice, as I had finally made my mind up.
Five minutes passed and there was a knock at the door, I ran towards it and opened it,
“Hey Mar—Wow… you look absolutely beautiful…” Surge’s jaw had dropped.
“Even more beautiful than the stars?” I was blushing, I knew I was, and so was he.
“Yes… You do… Shall we get going?” I nodded and walked out of the door, closing it behind me.
We walked for a while and then I finally took up the courage to tell him what I had decided.
“Hey, Um… You know that question you asked me about a week ago?” I looked away, trying to hide my massive blush.
“Yeah? Have you made up your mind yet?”
“Yes, I have… And the answer is… Yes, I will. I would be more than happy to be your girlfriend” As soon as I said those few words, he picked me up bridal style and held me close to him.
“I promise, to be the best you deserve Maria. And if I fail in doing that, I will not hesitate to kill myself.”
