Shadow in the Shadows. (This is continuing the last chapter btw)
(Sorry if the transitions in my story suck I haven't felt like fixing them) (yes I'm a shitty artist get used to seeing my terrible art)
Dusk was sitting on her couch at home. She had completed plenty of missions this week but none of them had answered her question of why Eggman hadn't been doing anything recently. She threw a throwing knife at the target across the room from the couch it hit the center with a small thunking noise. Dusk knew that she was much more powerful than whatever Eggman could throw at her but she didn't like not knowing what he was up too. She was thinking she could sneak into his base tonight and spy on him but than again Shadow had invited her to the party at Sonic's house.
Dusk wasn't sure she wanted to go to the party but she decided to go anyway. She decided maybe somebody at the party had information on what Eggman was up to at the party.
Dusk looked down at her outfit she was still in what she had worn to battle of the bands. If she was going to go to the party she would need to change her outfit. Dusk looked through her closet it was pretty much just the same camo tops and black leather covered leggings. Dusk didn't feel like wearing her mission cloths to the party she she continued to search through the closet wishing she had taken up Amy on the offer of a shopping trip a few weeks ago. She continued to look through the closet finally finding a black skirt, fishnets, and a different pair of combat boots. Only thing she needed was a top for the outfit. She shrugged she would just have to wear a camo top.
There was still plenty of time before the party. Dusk decided she would practice guitar till it was time for the party. As she opened her gig bag to pull out her guitar and to her surprise a folded T-shirt with a note on it was sitting in on top of her guitar. Dusk picked up the
T-shirt and took the note of it to read. is said.
"Hey Dusk, I got band t-shirts to sell to our band's fans. I figured that you deserved to get a free one for putting up with Scourge and being a battle of the bands winning lead guitarist." -Coldsteel
Dusk smiled a little, Coldsteel defiantly wasn't a perfect cousin but he wasn't half bad either. She unfolded the T-shirt to see that it was a crop top with the bands name in dark read cursive on the left hand corner of the top of the shirt. Dusk stood up and walked to her closet where she hung her camo shirt back up and slipped on the band T-shirt. It went surprisingly well with the outfit. Dusk went back to her couch to practice guitar when she got a text.
Sonic: Hey Dusk this is Sonic. Are you coming to the party tonight?
Dusk: How did you get my number?
Sonic: Are you coming?
Dusk: yes, how did you get my number?
Sonic: Glad your coming.
Dusk: answer my question.
Sonic: No comment, See ya at the party!
Dusk: K
Dusk couldn't help but wonder how Sonic had gotten her number. She only had the numbers of people who could give her missions and pay her to complete them, She also had Shadow's number but he wouldn't have given it to Sonic would he?
Dusk practiced guitar for a while. When it was time to head to the party Dusk grabbed her pistol and throwing knives. She had a feeling she could get a mission done on her way back from the party and she never went into a fight without them.
Dusk ran over to the party at Sonic's, As she was about to knock on the door she paused. She usually avoided big gatherings did she really want to go into this party.
Shadow seemed to appear next to Dusk and he knocked on the door. "You really were going to leave before you knocked on the door?"
Dusk nodded, " I usually don't do gathering."
"That doesn't stop you from get drunk of your ass with your band."
Dusk paused for a moment, "That's..... That's different I'm not as on edge if I'm drinking."
Shadow nodded, " I get that, You don't need to worry about the people here nobody is going to hurt you."
Dusk nodded, "I know. I guess I just have trust issues."
Shadow chuckled a little, "Don't we all?"
Sonic finally answered the door after Shadow knocked again. "Hey Shadow, Hey Dusk glad you came!"
"Thanks for having me Sonic." Dusk answered as she was practically dragged through the door by Sonic. As she looked around she saw that most of the Freedom fighters were already there. Not knowing what to do at a party without a food table with alcohol she walked over to a corner of the room where there were some weights. Not knowing what to do with herself she started to do curls with them. While she leaned against the wall.
A red echidna walked up to Dusk, her first instinct was to ignore him and pretend that he wasn't walking over to her but she couldn't do that for long because he started to talk to her. "Dusk right? I didn't know you lift."
Dusk nodded. The red echidna continued to talk. "I'm Knuckles, you probably already knew that since you work with the Freedom Fighters but I don't think we have ever actually met before."
Dusk nodded again, "Nice to meet you Knuckles."
"Dusk would you mind handing me the 20 lb weights?"
Dusk nodded and passed them over to Knuckles. He started to do curls with both his arm holding 20 lbs. It wasn't a huge amount of weight for a professional weight lifter but it was still quite a lot to lift two 20 lb weights at the same time.
Dusk raised her eyebrows, "Your strong." She said gesturing to Knuckles lifting the weights. Knuckles let out a laugh. Yah I'm kind of known for that."
"Oh sorry I probably should have known that I don't hang out with the Freedom Fighters much so I'm still working on getting to know everyone." Dusk said. She was mad that she hadn't know that, She should have made it a point to know the Freedom Fighters before working with them.
"No problem, glad you decided to come to the party Dusk." Knuckles said still laughing.
"Pizza is here" Sonic called out. Knuckles walked away to get a slice of pizza. Dusk put down the weight she had been lifting and walked over to the table. She knew that she was going to be on a pretty intensive mission on her way home so she decided to eat something light. She took the salad instead of eating the pizza. As she sat down on one of the couches to eat her salad another hedgehog sat down next to her she noticed he also had only salad on his plate as well. She had seen him fight with the Freedom Fighters before and wondered why the hell he was sitting next to her.
"Hey, how ya doing?"
"good, you?"
"I'm good. I noticed you only got salad are you vegan too?"
Dusk shook her head no
"Your not on one of those freaky girl diets like Amy are you."
Dusk laughed a little she had hear of Amy's strange dieting habits to make Sonic like her more. "No I have a pretty extreme workout tonight so I'm trying to eat light so I don't puke."
"That makes sense. Hey this is awkward but I don't think I ever got your name."
"Trigger Dusk but you can call me Dusk. Funny enough I don't know your name either."
"I'm Silver." He laughed "nice to meet you. I'm going to go bother Shadow now, want to join me?"
Dusk shook her head, "No. I'm going to finish my salad."
Silver nodded, "Nice meeting you." he said as he walked away to go bother Shadow.
Shadow noticed Knuckles had been taking to Dusk hey "Knuckles do you want her number?" He asked as Knuckles walked passed him for another slice of pizza. "Sorry who's number?" he asked. "Dusk's I'm giving her number to some of the Freedom Fighters to help her get conected since she never gives her number to anyone. Also It's kind of a prank because she has no idea how Sonic got her number and from what I'v heard it's driving her a little crazy."
Knuckles laughed a little, sure I'll take her number"
Shadow gave Knuckles Dusk's number and explained to him that Knuckles was not to tell her who gave him her number.
Silver walked over to where Shadow and Knuckles were standing. He overheard what they had been talking about and asked. "Hey Shad can I have Dusk's number too?"
Shadow shook his head no I don't want to give her number to people who are going to annoy her."
"But you gave her number to Knuckles!"
Shadow smiled a little, "Sorry Silver I just really think that her number shouldn't be given to all the Freedom Fighters."
"You just won't give me her number because you want to annoy me!"
Shadow nodded," So what if that's why?"
Silver gave Shadow an irritated look and marched off to get some more salad.
As Silver walked over to the food table he saw a gun in it's holder on the back of Dusk's belt. He used his levitating powers to make the gun float to him while she was busy talking to Rouge on the couch. He was going to make Shadow pay for not giving him Dusk's number. He unloaded the ammo and snuck up behind Shadow than fired it. A loud bang was heard.
Shadow jumped and spun around. He grabbed Silvers arm. He was still holding the pistol.
Silver realized the mistake he had made it was hilarious to see Shadow startled but now he was going to pay for what he had done.
Shadow looked down at the pistol in Silver's hand. It had a small engraved rose in the handle, " What the hell Silver. Why would you fire a gun at a party?"
Silver didn't know what to say, "I took out the ammo first."
Shadow nodded, " That's good but I would like to know why your firing Dusk's gun. She would never let anyone use it. Especially not for playing pranks on people. This is precisely why I'm not giving you her number." Shadow growled.
Silver nodded, "Sorry Shadow." Shadow let go of his wrist. "Your going to give that gun back to Dusk after you reload it and never do that again."
Silver nodded his head vigorously, He was just glad that Shadow wasn't going to beat him up.
Meanwhile, Dusk had been walking back over to the food table to grab an iced tea. When she heard a gun shot rang out. Her hand went to her gun but that's when she realized it wasn't there. She froze halfway to the table. Everyone else continued as they had before after they saw it was just Silver. But Dusk remained still.
The gun shot were ringing out, Someone called out, "Stop him, do whatever it takes, Kill him the godamn traitor. There was blood so much blood. Dlyan was still alive. Dusk couldn't do anything she was being forced to be still. She felt a push and as she looked behind her she saw Dylan destroying the portal. A soldier stabbed him with a knife another hacked his head off. He fell to the ground dead as the portal closed.
Silver's hand was on her shoulder. Automatically Dusk slapped it off as she snapped out of her memories. She looked behind her to see Silver holding out her pistol to her. She grabbed it and turned the safety on before putting it back into it's holder.
It only took Dusk a few seconds to remember where she was and figure out what had happened. She muttered to Silver. "You better start running because when I catch you, you might take your last breath.
Silver looked in shock at Dusk, she had seemed so much nicer when they had talked on the couch. Was she really going to kill him for taking her pistol. "I said run you stupid son of a bitch!" Dusk voice was much louder now. She punched him right in the stomach leaving him winded on the floor. Dusk walked toward Silver to hit him again. He didn't need anymore persuading. Silver got up and started running for his life.
Shadow was watching what was happening from a corner of the house. Everyone else was too busy having a good time at the party to notice what had just happened. He couldn't hear what Dusk had said but he saw the look on her face. The brown sliver in her eye was red.
She was clearing planing on attacking Silver and possibly killing him. Before Dusk could run after Silver Shadow had teleported over to her and grabbed her arm to stop her.
"Dusk I know your pissed that Silver took your gun but you can't hurt him to badly. Your clearly a lot more powerful than him and could really hurt him."
Dusk seemed to come back to herself. "Your right, I could hurt him Shadow. I won't but I would have Thanks for stopping me. The sound of a gunshot really triggered me especially when my gun wasn't on me."
" If you could go find Silver and tell him he can go back to the party I have something I need to go do."
Shadow nodded," I can do that." "Thanks Shad. I need to go now."
Dusk walked out of the house. She looked at her phone to get the exact location of her mission. It didn't take her long it was a simple save the hostage, and put the captor at gunpoint for information. Dusk didn't get anything useful, just another person saying Eggman would make her pay if she killed them.
Dusk heard another bang, She froze again having the same flashback as before. Dylan dying it all hurt so much. When she snapped out of her flashback she knew she needed a drink. There was a bar a little ways out of the city that would serve anyone with almost no questions. It was one of those places where you ask no questions to anyone and you aren't asked any questions.
Dusk entered the bar and sat down. She spoke to the bar tender. "Give me a whisky." The bartender nodded." Dusk handed over the payment after he had handed her the drink. She didn't want to have to think anymore so she drank the whisky and than asked for another.
Shadow had found Silver and they had gone back to the party. Shadow noticed something had definitely been off with Dusk after she heard the gunshot. He knew he wasn't likely to find her but he decided to try and find her anyway. He checked the band garage and a few casinos, he definitely knew she wasn't at most of them when they asked for his ID card and they kicked him out when they found out he was 15. He finally decided to check her house. He knocked on the door the house was empty.
Shadow decided to check the garage one last time. He saw Scourge marching out of the Garage. Dusk wasn't there but Coldsteel was. He was cleaning the overturned furniture from the converstion he had just had with Scourge. Shadow knocked on the side of the garage opening. "Coldsteel mind if I talk to you for a second?" Coldsteel looked up from what he was doing, "Ehh sure why not?"
"Thanks, I was wondering if you knew where Dusk could be."
"Hmmm, I might. Why do you want to know?"
"She almost tried to kill someone after they shot an unloaded gun to startle me. I she left in quite a hurry after that."
"Coldsteel looked up a in worry, Shadow what day is it?"
" I think it's August 15th"
"Shit"
"Coldsteel what's so important about the day?"
"Has Dusk ever told you how we met?"
"Didn't you meet at a coffee shop?"
Coldsteel shook his head. "No we met before that. I don't think she really wants anyone knowing about this but you might as well."
Shadow leaned against the wall, "Alright spill it where did you meet?"
Coldsteel sucked in his cheeks, and then exhaled. "As you know I was in jail for a while after I tried to kill you, Sorry about that by the way it's nothin personal. Well anyway as you can see I'm not in jail right now. It's mostly for the service work I was doing. Anyway I had pretty much been the one keeping all the prisoners in line and had been on pretty good behavior. One night the cop who was in the jail watching us was radioed asking for backup." The cop let me out of prison to help him but he didn't tell me what I was going to help with. He told me that if I did well I would be pardoned for my crimes and let out of jail.'
Shadow looked at Coldsteel, "I don't think they can do that isn't it against the law."
Coldsteel shrugged, "They were pretty desperate for help at that point. Can I finish my story?"
Shadow nodded
"Well anyway I was taken to an ally way where Dusk was standing shaking like there was an earthquake. She was clearly really drunk and she had her gun out pointed at a someone who had apparently killed the dead man next to him in the ally. She was screaming literal nonsense at the man.
She had knocked out three police so that she could keep her gun pointed at the man. From my understanding the first police officer who had requested backup had hear a gunshot from the alley. When he came over he saw a man holding a gun and a dead man he had clearly just shot. The man was going to shoot the cop but Dusk had hear the gunshot and run over and taken the gun from the man before he could kill the cop.
The cops told her to bring the man over to them but she refused and continued to say the man deserved death. My job was pretty much to get the gun away from Dusk and arrest the murderer man. I succeeded but probably only because Dusk was so drunk.
The cops didn't keep their word and put me back in jail. A few days later Dusk actually came to the jail and paid the bail for me. She apologized for being an idiot and not letting the cops take away the murder. Apparently she has PTSD and she was re-living her trauma and for some reason being drunk and high made her think the man I put in jail killed an old friend of hers.
All of that happened August 15 th which was also the day she had the experience that gave her PTSD."
Shadow looked at Coldsteel for a while. "Sorry but did you just tell me that we are letting someone who for some reason their PTSD spikes today wander around alone?"
Coldsteel shook his head "Nah she will be fine as long as she has her pistol on her and doesn't get drunk." Coldsteel's voice dyed towarrd the end of the sentence. "Dang it come on we need to get to where Dusk is before she really is drunk."
Coldsteel rushed out of the garage Shadow right behind him. The speed ran all the way to the bar where they entered to see Dusk drinking whisky like there was no tomorrow.
Coldsteel froze he didn't want to have to deal with his cousin when she was drunk like this. She was really easy to piss of and really hard to have a logical conversation with.
When Shadow saw that Coldsteel wasn't going to do anything he sighed and walked up to Dusk, "Dusk?"
Dusk looked up quickly "Shad what are you doing here?"
Coldsteel, walked up to where they were. "Dusk I think we all know what day it is and that you really should be at home."
Dusk nodded, she waved over the bartender, "Please give me the tab."
The bar tender nodded a few minutes later he handed her the tab. Dusk moaned she hadn't meant to have more than a drink or two.
The total was high enough she knew she was going to miss a few meals next week. She reluctantly paid for what she had drank and walked out the bar with Shadow and Coldsteel. As they were leaving they saw Rouge and Knuckles walking toward the bar.
"Drinks are an me hun" The heard Rouge say. As they got closer to the door. Shadow grabbed Coldsteel and Dusk and Chaos controlled them to the garage. All three of them sat down and talked for a while about how they all knew each other. A few hours later Dusk went home.
Shadow and Coldsteel were till at the garage, "Hey Coldsteel you seem like a good person nice seeing you." Shadow said before he left. Coldsteel was tiered from the night so he went so sleep on the couch in the garage.
