Good friends

After we were done cleaning up after breakfast, Rain headed outside. I dried the last dish then went to the doorway, looking out.
Hydra was sleeping by his food bowl. Rain smiled and went up to him, rubbing his nose. Hydra hummed a bit, content. Rain then put his hands on the food bowl. Leaves and grass appeared in the bowl, filling it to the brim. Satisfied, Rain took his hand away.
He looked so happy, with, well, everything. And strangely enough, his smile cheered me up. It's probably because I was alone for awhile... I'm not sure how long this companionship will last, but for now, I might as well enjoy it. Before something happens.
I mean, when your undead for thousands of years it gets pretty dreary. So the little things matter.
I pushed aside my thoughts for the moment and went over to him.
"Ready to go?" I asked
He nodded, smiling.
"Yep!"
"Alright, let's go."
We teleported to Scratch. Usually I would stay invisible, just hang out and possibly read, but with Rain that was impossible.
He was eating some cereal, reading a book as he did. Once we appeared he jumped.
"W-why do you keep sneaking up on me like that??"
"Why are you expecting me NOT to sneak up on you?"
Rain giggled, and it made me feel a bit warm inside.
"That's not the point, who's this?"
"I'm rain! It's nice to meet you." He smiled.
"Rains visiting if that's ok with you. Rain, this is Scratch. Scratch, Rain."
Scratch smiled and waved a bit, then he looked at me.
"Wait, are you two friends?"
I shrugged.
"Duh."
"Yep!" Rain chipped in.
Scratch spoke.
"I didn't think you had any friends, to be honest." He spoke carefully, as if I would attack him if he said something off. And I'll be honest, I was tempted to say something back, but then Rain spoke.
"Where did you get that idea?"
"Well, um... He doesn't really let people in. He usually pushes people away, and he doesn't talk much except to say something negative, so I sort of assumed he was a loner. Either that or he hates social situations."
I Shrugged a bit.
"Your not wrong, but I can have friends too."
Rain nodded and looked at me.
"Yeah, loners can have friends too..."
I didn't really like being called a loner, and Scratch got a BIT too much into detail there, but I knew it was true. I did kind of push people away. And to be honest, I didn't think I had any friends besides Rain.
So it made me happy knowing he considered me a friend too, as loose a definition as that is.
But, of course, Scratch had to ruin it by saying I'm a negative nobody. Honestly, I don't know why I put up with all of his questions. He was pretty annoying sometimes.
Scratch spoke.
"Sorry, I don't mean to intrude on whatever's going on. I'm going to go back to eating my cereal if that's ok with you."
"As you should"
Rain giggled, but Scratch just went back to eating. I smiled at Rain, and he smiled back. I really liked his smile, it was bright and sweet. I blushed a bit and looked away.
Scratch looked at me curiously. I cleared my throat.
"Want to go train, Rain?"
He raised a eyebrow.
"Train? Sure."
I held Rain's hand and led him outside. He blushed and followed me, squeezing my hand a bit. I felt my face heat up but I tried to ignore it. After ten minutes of walking we stopped in a field. The grass rippled in the wind, like a giant green sea. The stalks were up to our knees, brushing against our legs. The sun shone down on us, the warmth of the rays relaxed me. I took a deep breathe, the scent of flowers and trees in the air. For a moment I could imagine myself somewhere entirely different, back in my own time perhaps, in my own land...
I sighed and opened my eyes, and the sense of security vanished. But the warmth and fresh air still relaxed me, as it always did, so it didn't really matter.
"This is where I like to practice and clear my head, it works like a charm."
Rain looked around a bit.
"Seems like it would."
I looked at him carefully.
"Do you know how to fight?"
