New Home

The next day around the morning time, Langston came back and informed that a middle-aged couple wanted to adopt me. He showed me a picture of the people and told me that their names were Susy, and Tahj. They looked like a nice couple, but I don’t know if I can trust anyone at all. I waved goodbye to Jaden and his darling mother as I got driven away to the couple’s house. I sighed as I stepped out the car to come inside. Inside, I see my new guardians.

“Hello,” a lady said in a french accent. “My name is Susy, and this is my husband, Tahj.” she gave me a weak smile. “I would like you to call me, Momma, and him Poppa. But you can call us by our names instead.”

Then there was Tahj’s turn. “Hi, I am Tahj, and you already know that. I am from India, just so you know. Umm, nice to meet you!” he says putting his hand out so I can shake it. And so I do. Someone knocks on the door and Tahj answers it. “Who are you, young man?”

“My name is Andrew.”

“And what makes you think you’re good enough to talk to my daughter?”

“Um, I’m almost fourteen. I’m here to take her to school, I was sent by the teacher.”

“Summer!” Tahj calls me.

I walk out the door and gulp. For some reason this just didn’t feel right. The boy takes me to a park and then we sit on a bench. “Why am I here?” I ask him.

He gives me a nervous laugh. “Well, for one, you’re not going with me to go to school.” he snickered. “So, my name is Andrew. Nice to meet you Summer.”

“I already know your name, and nice to meet you too.”

“You know, you have very pretty eyes.”

I blush at his comment. “Thanks.”

“No prob, so what’s up?”

“Nothing. I just have the worst life ever!”

“Tell me about it,” he pauses. “About your life,” he sighs. “How is it?”

“My mother died, and I got adopted by these stupid people! Argh! Look, it’s not my place to lay all this on you. It’s just, too - personal!”
“Both of parents are dead, and I just got a new guardian. Every foster parent, I had treated me wrong.” he says showing me a red mark on his arm that looked really bad. “Let’s have a race, if you lose you have to kiss me.”

“And if I win?”

“You don’t have to.”

“Ready, set, go!” I call. He runs pretty fast at first, running ahead of me, but I catch up. He runs a little bit faster and then he beats me. Kissing someone you just met, is awkward, but I just closed my eyes and it came natural. At first it felt like a tingle, my heart was racing, and my legs were shaking. But then it was over.
