Chapter 5

Finally, she came to a door with an ‘R’ branded into it. Devlin typed in a password and the door slid open noiselessly. As Brandon and Vienna crept in slowly, they could hear faint voices, but they couldn’t detect who they belonged to. Brandon and Vienna climbed up to the rafters that were above the room and proceeded to creep slowly into the room from above. All of the sudden they came into an opening and they were above two figures. One was behind bars, and the other was cloaked. “ Devlin!” Brandon mouthed to Vienna. She nodded and they tried figure out who the other figure was. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t McCullough, the jerk who always decided she had to one up me in school every chance she got.” said Devlin. “Oh, says the one who tried to kill me in Middle School!” “You know that was an accident!” “No, it wasn’t!

You tried to stab me with a ruler!” Rylie yelled. Devlin reached through the bars and slapped Rylie. “I've spent my entire life in your shadow, and now it’s time for payback! Brandon still hasn’t called off the relationship, and you’ve got about… hm…  4 hours left. Oh, and by the way, Cantu decided to let ME kill you.” “I’d rather die from Cantu than you any day!” Rylie yelled. “Well, too bad! We can’t all get what we want, now can we?” “Well, if we can’t all get what we want… then that should mean that you don’t get to kill me because it’s something you want to do! Isn’t that right, Devlin?” “Oh shut up and stop stalling!” “Who am I stalling for?” “You're stalling for your boyfriend and Vienna to come and help you get out of here, but trust me..it won’t work!” *Out loud to everyone* “I know that you're here! Brandon! Vienna! Come out, come out...wherever you are!!!” Devlin says with a evil smirk that was spread all across her face.

“What the heck are you talking about Devlin?!?”  “You think I don't know, do you? Well of course I know that they're here! The way your eyes keep shifting and looking upwards, oh and you're OBVIOUSLY stalling.” “Uh well, er…” Rylie stuttered. “HA! Don’t know what else to say, do you jerk?” “You know Devlin, you're really boring me with your senseless chatter. I mean honestly, I hope that someone will someday stand up to you and say ‘Shut up!’. Well, someone besides me.” Devlin just rolled her eyes. “Wow. Well, I hope you know, that this was SO totally a trap!” The rafters underneath Brandon and Vienna fell, and they both fell in front of Devlin. “HA! Wow! I can’t believe you guys were stupid enough to follow me! I mean, HELLO! Me in a dark forest leading you somewhere is OBVIOUSLY a trap.” Devlin laughed. “My plan worked perfectly!” “Oh are you so sure about that???” Vienna yelled. She picked up one of the fallen rafters and threw it at Devlin. Devlin tried to dodge it, but she ended up getting hit square in the face! “OWWW! That hurt!” Devlin said in pain ¨Wow, V..since when did you have a good arm?¨ Brandon asked. Everyone was looking at Devlin, who was rolling around on the floor, they all started to laugh. “OWWW, THE PAIN! THE PAIN!!!” Devlin was saying. *Bandit walks into the room* “GUYS HELP!!! XENA IS HURT!!! CANTU STRUCK HER WITH HIS TOXIC POWER!!! COME HELP HER!!!” Bandit said with a worried face. “Hey! I'm the empath here! Let me out so I can help my friend!!!” Rylie said. “Don’t worry Rylie! I got you!” Brandon said as he held the lock in his hand and crushed it. He let the pieces of dust fall out of his hand, then he opened the door for Rylie and then everyone left, except for Vienna. “Hey, do you need some help?” “Why would you help me, after all I have done to you.. Why would you help me? ME?”

Devlin questioned. “ Because, I am a good friend and I love to help others. Take my hand Devlin!” Vienna said in a calm voice, Devlin took Viennas hand. “ Thank you… You have a really good team!” “ Welcome, and Thanks…” *looks at Devlin* “Would you like to join us?”  “You mean it?”  “Yeah! But only on one condition!” “ Im flexible, what did you have in mind?” “ Well, I was thinking that maybe you could try to not kill Rylie, or anyone really.” ¨What if you say that I can kill them?!?!¨ ¨Then you can kill them!¨  ¨YES!!!¨ Devlin said with excitement. The two girls walked out and they met up with Bandit, Brandon, and Rylie. ¨So, where is Vienna?¨ Xena asked. ¨She is with*looks at Vienna and sees Devlin*OH CRAP!!! WHAT IS SHE DOING HERE?!?!?!¨ Brandon said and with that, everyone stopped and stared at Vienna. ¨Well, Devlin is here to help us!¨ ¨Help us? She TRIED TO KILL ME!!!¨ Rylie screamed. “I know! But doesn’t everyone get a second chance?!?!” “What can we use to help Xena, Devlin?” Bandit asked. “Well, we can use Rylie’s empath and enhancing powers to calm Xena down, and then we can do surgery on her.” Vienna explained. “ Um, hello! I haven’t even agreed to this yet! If I use my powers for to long, I’ll pass out for about a day or two!” Rylie pointed out. “Well, is there a way to perform the surgery quickly and NOT have Rylie pass out?” Brandon said. Rylie sighed. “I’m afraid not. The surgery could take up to fifteen hours. At the least, it’ll take ten hours.

I can calm Xena for about, seven and a half hours. There is no way I’ll make it out of the surgery without passing out. But, if it’s the only way… then… then I’ll do it!” “Love, are you sure? What happens if you never wake up? What if…” Brandon said, stopping suddenly. “What if you die?” Vienna said quietly. “ Guys, I have to do this. If I don’t Xena will die! I don’t want to feel guilty for her death. I have to do this.” Rylie said with tears in her eyes. “But it’s not right for you to risk your life to save someone else!” Brandon yelled. “Brandon, yes it is! Think about how Bandit will feel if Xena dies!” “But what about me!?!” Brandon yelled again. “I can’t lose you again!” “There is a very small chance that I will die Brandon! At the very least, I’ll pass out for a day and a half!” “NO! I CAN’T LOSE YOU! PLEASE, DON’T DO THIS!” “Brandon, it’ll be okay! Did you hear what Rylie just said? It’s practically a one in a hundred chance that she’s gonna die!” Vienna said. “I have to do this Brandon,” Rylie said. “Please, I can’t let her die…” “Okay okay! Fine. Do the surgery! Please, be careful though.” Rylie nodded. “I will be extremely careful. With Xena and myself. Just letting everyone know, I will pass out for a day, so no one freak out!” Devlin stood up. “I know how to extract the poison,” She said. Cantu taught me how.” *Our friends all rush to a local hospital and put Xena in a surgery room. Rylie, Xena, Devlin, and Bandit are all inside.
