Blue
Leane’s favourite colour had always been blue. She loved the light blues, the darker shades, even the neon sort of blue. It had been her favourite ever since she saw her father step into that fire truck, the sun reflecting off the bright red colour of the vehicle, and she missed those blue eyes with a greenish hue.Her dad was her hero. Actually, he was a hero for many people. And Leane admired that. She wanted nothing more than to be just like her father, saving the lives of others.
He would always come home tired, weary after the long hours he worked. Often, he came home with soot smudged across his nose, to which Leane would laugh and hand him a towel. His blue eyes would light up for her, and he would help her with her homework, or make her dinner, even though he was clearly exhausted.
Leane realized she had never appreciated those small acts enough. Not until he was gone, at least.
Suddenly, blue just served as a reminder of what she had lost. She despised the colour, always cringing when she would stumble across an article that was the exact shade of her father’s eyes.
The following years were painful. She went from home to home - her foster parents never seemed to like her too much. She began to run away, and always ended up back at the orphanage. They called her a troubled kid. Said no one would ever love someone like her. And she believed them.
Yet, they were wrong, Leane thought to herself as she snuggled further into the petite figure next to her. The being in question chuckled and lifted their arm to wrap it around the girl, kissing her forehead gently. Leane looked up and smiled at the girl who was currently staring down at her with a fond look in her azure eyes. Leane raised her chin to touch her lips to her girlfriend’s, a smile playing at her lips, the image of the expression in her eyes engraved in her brain.
So maybe blue was her favourite colour again.
