Chapter 1

??? p.o.v
My eyes opened to slits as they got used to the blurriness of the light seeping in through the den. Faintly I could hear the orders being barked at the poor senior Guards. "Quail you dog-brain, get a move on, I don't care if you just woke up, do you want to be thrown in the pit?!", the snarl of our Beta sounded out through the clearing. I don't know his name but that should be expected... Betas, Alphas and Omegas cannot be referred to their birth names. Pity really, Betas and Alphas use their titles to their advantage and Omegas are looked down upon for it as well.
"Alpha! Vine has refused to report to the daily scout, what should we do?", The Beta reported as if he was of equal rank. "Throw him in the pit, rebels need to be punished for uncalled for behavior..", was the cold, monotone response from the 'almighty' Alpha. Mother says he will improve, but my father says he wont, its confusing, how he could be manipulated into the Alpha he is now. "Dusk, hello? snap out of it!", was the curt question from the white wolf beside me, strange since most of us are on the dark side of the range of colors, given or home. "hmm?, ah yes, what is it Frost?", was my empty reply. "Beta wants us to go train with our Knowledge givers", was her response.
As we made our way to the great stones, our pelts were complete opposites white with a dark grey.
"We're here!", Frost exclaimed, since her fur color caused doubt she pushes herself much harder and is an excellent healer even though we are trained for battles. "Thank Mother Wolf, you two are the worst receivers I've met in my years of mentoring!", my Knowledge giver said, he goes by the name of Grim. "...", my tail was in between my legs, I only spoke to Mother, Father and Frost, my most trusted wolves I know. "humph, let's continue shall we?", he grumbles as he leads us to a clearing. "Now for today, we are working solely on hunting techniques okay?", he says. We nod and get in stance. "Now, Dusk go behind those bushes, Ebony here will be the deer, I'll be the side flank, Dusk other flank and Frost back, clear?", he says before turning tail into some other bushes.
As Frost made the call to attack, I ran alongside Grim before we dispersed, going on each side of the sprinting Ebony. Frost bulled a bit behind to get a good distance, also this is necessary to avoid kicks. She gave a yelp to lunge and Grim locked his jaws onto Ebony's flank, of course softly. I lunged my jaws also locking onto her other leg, making her stumble. Frost leaped, her weight knocking down the stumbling Ebony, our fake prey. "Good job, let's do this a couple more times and you may go retire to eat and then converse, and then get ready for slumber", Grim says.
We continue until it is time to retire. We make our way back, passing by the pit which is being guarded, wolves must be in there again... We entered through a tunnel of vines and moss, coming into a clearing dappled with shadows and light cascading through the leaves of the oaks that inhabit our home. "Come on Dusk, let's go see what is in the Pile today!", Frost exclaimed excitedly. Now that I look at it, I realize she's much larger than me, I was always on the small side, but I was still young I might still grow... maybe... I can only hope. "Sure..", was my blunt response. she made her way over, me trailing her bright coat. "Ooh, how about a Hare, or, or a Groundhog, oh maybe a Crow", she rambled on. "...mhmm.." I said, quickly getting lost as I swept my gaze over the camp, Alpha on the boulder, Beta nagging as always, others chatting away and Omega, I haven't seen him all day. "let's get a Hare!", she exclaimed, grabbing it and prancing off to under to gnarled swamp tree in our camp. "ok...", I said as I followed her, laying down as silently eating away at the Hare as Frost also ate.
It was late, Frost dragged me to her friends, and I just stood there until it was time to rest. As I made my way alone to my own den, I could see a figure slinking away but I paid no heed to it as I went to get my well earned rest.
