The Red Dress
In the very back of the dark closetThere is a worn, red dress
Worn by many,
Forgotten by all.
The red dress belonged to a queen,
And she wore it well.
But over time
It became dusty and neglected.
It was passed to the princess,
Who wore it not once
She was too busy flaunting about
In her own pink dress.
It got passed on to the maid,
Who put it to good use.
She wore it to the ball
And fell in love with a miller.
They got married
And had a child
She was a girl.
And the red dress passed to her.
The girl wore it every day
She dressed up as the Queen of Hearts
And when she had children
It went to her eldest.
Her eldest fell in love with a peasant
And she wore the dress on her wedding day.
They had a girl together
And that girl was little Suzie.
Little Suzie isn't little anymore
But she wears the red dress
And she tells its story.
And when she passes away...
The dress will get passed on.
And on.
And on.
