Prologue
-THE ORACLE-Opekun padded through the snowfall, cold flakes stinging his paws and clouding his senses. He knew only a fool would go out in a storm like this, but he needed answers. Answers he could not find within the shelter of his bramble-woven den, with his lovely queen at his side.
The oracle would tell him what he sought, that he knew. But he couldn’t shake the feeling of unease, with stress bearing down on him heavier then a grizzly, he didn’t need an unworthy heir. He lifted his chin and stared into the blizzard, he made out the shape of the Oracle’s den, bleary and shapeless in the distance. He ran. The snow burned his eyes as it fell down harder and harder. Opekun was floating lightly on the snow, sprinting at full speed. He padded into the oracle’s den, it was warm inside. The old wolf was staring at a crystal, glinting in the reflection of the snow. The Oracle had been raised by Lynxes after her pack abandoned her for being the runt, she had vowed to serve Opekun’s kind for the rest of her days. Opekun trusted her completely. She hardly looked up from her study, “come in, Ive been expecting you.” She softly growled. Opekun bit back the impulse to snap, to tell her he was the overlord and should be treated with respect. She was his equal, she was not bound by his rule. He sat beside her. “Oracle” he meowed “my queen...is bearing my kits. I need to know if they will be safe, what will become of them.” The oracle sighed. “I know. I wanted to keep you from it longer, but if it is truth you seek, I guess you have the right to know.” Opekun tilted his head, “what do you mean?!” He called desperately. The she-wolf ignored him, “what you don’t know, what thou can’t see, lies the truth, you’ll never be free. Two kits will born to lovely queen, the power will come forth,
The eldest daughter will not rule from the south to the north. Your Eldest daughter you will see, has a different kind of destiny.”
She muttered. Opekun shook his head, confused and scared. “What are you talking about?!! What will happen to her?!!!” “Unless someone guides her paws, blood of her father will run in her jaws.” The oracle growled loudly. The wind rushed outside, whistling and howling loudly. Opekun was mortified. His eldest daughter...
Will kill him.
-ESCAPE-
Okrana carried the tiny kit to the boarder of Opekun’s territory. As soon as the kits were born, Opekun was having a heart attack, and ordered her to kill the eldest kit. Okrana had no idea why, in fact she thought it was cruel. How could one have so much hatred towards a tiny kit? Okrana didn’t know, but she knew that to keep her place in the kingdom she must do her job or be thrown out. She stifled a tear. She reached the boarder of the kingdom territory, and dropped the kit onto the snow. The kit shifted uncomfortably, a high-pitched mew escaping its tiny jaws. Okrana looked at the kit, barely two days old. Okrana felt remorse and pain. “I-i can’t do this.” She sighed softly, nuzzling the kit gently. “I’ll raise you myself.” Her heart stopped when she uttered those words. She couldn’t do that, she had to get back to her kingdom. Feeling guilty and sad, Okrana turned and padded away. Leaving the tiny kit out in the snow. She stopped and looked over her shoulder at the mewling kit, the queen had told her what she wanted to name her eldest kit. It was a beautiful and elegant name that Okrana liked. She sighed softly, “safe journey, Glaze.”
