Pepe vs Dat Boi
I just realised that Dat Boi’s extremely rapid succession as a “good” meme was completely and utterly forced by mass groups of people most likely attempting to disband Pepe. By following the masses and making extremely, unnecessarily high quality Dat Boi memes, we are lessening the popularity of Pepe memes. Pepe has had successful longevity and sustained popularity, rarely diminishing with recent lower tier memes such as “Damn Daniel”, “Dat Boi”, “Who Is She” and “*shoving breadsticks into purse*”. However, these recent extremely lower tier memes have come in such rapid succession that Pepe’s popularity has not been able to regenerate itself. As well as the fact that most users and other, so called, /dank/ meme makers are segregated into two classes based on sub-generations they are from. One of the larger sub-generations is from 2010, the origin of internet memes. These users have either graduated from meme sub-culture into the real world and still hold onto the pre conceptual references of “ALL THE THINGS”, “ERMAHGERD”, and various cat memes. If they haven’t, then they have subtly changed their meme technique. By closely studying the various meme culture around their time period, they have adapted their style of meme and the current meme-style. However, this type also added their specific flair for meme-creation. This is also very beneficial because it brings the extended quality of vintage meme artisans to new age material. New age material is in general, more angsty and “lower case” compared to old school meme-creation which is focused more on exaggeration and is exceedingly “upper case”. The second largest sub-generation is the new age meme artisans.
These people have begun to create memes that focus on their drained view of life. These memes often have all lower case letters and exaggerate things timidly. By making memes focusing on angst and presenting them in an emotionally vacant manner. These two sub-cultures of meme are both crucial to the analysation of the downfall of Pepe and the upgrade of Dat Boi. The first sub-generation, refuses to relinquish the dominant meme of Pepe while the second sub-generation wishes to disavow Pepe. As a rather large portion of the second sub-generation are not old enough to understand the concept of Pepe. As such, they create this variety of new-age memes. Conclusivly, Dat Boi’s popularity is directly related to the abject reality that is Pepe’s downfall. Unfortunately however, in some website cases, it is found that the old school meme artisans outnumber new age creators. Thus, the balance of Pepe popularity is fluctuant and differential from the norm. Finally, it can be concluded that Pepe’s popularity as the internet’s frog meme is not only being subtly destroyed by various bubblegum memes but is also being destroyed by the meme creators of the new generation.
(what is wrong with me, I'm so bored)
