Take The Blame
The cooling breeze of a new day would light up anyone's day, even in hard times good things will likely happen at least sometimes it does. A long time ago a land once belonging to monsters who had lived peacefully together were taken over by the known royalty of the Butterfly family with the first queen leading her fellow soldiers up against the monsters to fight for the rights of the founded land wreaking a devastating war that took many innocent lives away mainly monsters at that. The battle was highly unfair as the invaders overpowered monsters with their sharpened weaponry and the Queen's powerful magic defeating each monster, banishing them further into the forest where soon the land was claimed and called Mewni with a new day to celebrate known as the Monster Massacre which throughout time monsters have deeply despised.Overtime some monsters have started developing weapons of their own in ability to have evenly fights with the Mewmans but even with weapons they have no match up against their magic which many monsters have feared but others not phased by it have made plans to be rid of such a nuisance no matter what it takes. During those years have passed some fighting still occurs between Mewmans and Monsters alike which is how a young monster's life will change forever.
In a small area located deep within the forest where a couple of log houses or caves are home too a few Monsters, an 18 year old monster hybrid is whacking an old tree with a terribly drawn Mewman on it being used as a target. The female monster aims the two ended spear straight at the paper and with quick reflexes plunges the staffly weapon through the thickened bark sticking out of the other side. She smiles proud of her success and well done aim pulling the spear from it's fake victim "Welp Lotil, you did a good job there just a few more practices and you'll be ready for battle" Lotil; a Wolf lizard hybrid with brown fur and orange scales along her body, her arms, neck, including half of her tail attachment were scales while her head, legs, upper lower body, and the rest of her tail was fur. Her eyes were both grassy green each with two orange markings behind them, orange wings along her back, and wore a grey cut off shirt with white cotton around the collar and sleeves, and grey shorts to match the cut off.
Lotil happily stretches before feeling the presence of a hand on her shoulder. With immediate action turns the jagged staff at the unknowing stranger but settles down once she recognizes who it was, her father Regimen; an orange scaled lizard with brown facial markings, spikey like tail, wearing what looked like greyish armor on his upper body while below only wore jeans, and sky blue eyes. Who had his hands placed up in the air defensively "Whoa, hey there it's just me haha" he laughed a bit Lotil put the weapon behind her looking at her father.
"Sup dad, sorry about that I was so distracted with my pride I may have gotten a bit jumpy there thinking you were a threat or something" she laughed a bit herself seeing her mistake. Regimen smiled "It's alright, glad to see your improving a lot with your battle training you've really improved" he sniffed joyfully "My little Tilly is going to be such a great fighter some day I'm so proud" startling Lotil he hugs his now embarrassed daughter in his arms happy tears in his eyes.
" Dad, I'm like 18 can you please not do this now" Lotil whines struggling in her father's grasp. Regimen nods releasing Lotil "Ah yes sorry about that sweetheart. I'm just so proud your gonna become a great monster soldier one day" Lotil smiled grateful at her father's words "Thank you dad. I promise you I won't let you down" he patted her head " I know you won't" he responded wholeheartedly.
"Now let's head inside you're mother has dinner ready" both Regimen and Lotil walk side by side walking up the wooden steps through the mossy curtain for a door covering. A strong fresh scent of meat had fell over Lotil's sensitive nose she sighed sniffing the delightful smell that entered her two barring nostrils even her father was loving it.
Near a small looking kitchen stood a monster wolf, mother to Lotil was named Terra; she had brown and yellow fur, yellow wings with brown underfeathers, a large yellow tail, brown hair that came from the top of her head from behind the ears ending at her shoulders, wore a greyish top that curved into a sort of pointed structure with red linings below was a dark grey skirt, and green grass eyes. She had been cooking a fresh tuna caught earlier today being fried and covered in a spicy texture for great flavor, her wings staying well folded on her back she could tell Lotil and Regimen had just arrived already loving the smell of her cooking "I know you all are hungry for some fried tuna now be patient it will only be just a sec before any of you get have some" the wolf turned her head slightly to look at them with a smile. Regimen being the first to respond came to Terra's side with both hands to her waist looking over her shoulder to peek at the masterpiece called food "It looks delicious honey as always you make great tasting food, mind if I help you?" Terra giggles at his comment and looks at him with a smirk "I do like the compliment but you cooking? Remember the last time? You ended up almost catching the house on fire in addition you couldn't even get a measly squirrel to sit still for you in order to make into a meal" Regimen rubbed his neck "Yeah, I remember that. But how was I suppose to know I had to kill the squirrel before I cooked it and I had no idea that water and burning oil don't go together it was my first time" he lifted his arms to show how complicated it was for him.
She only laughed at his response "Oh Regi, you are such a card sometimes even in cooking disasters you still make my life complete" she kissed his cheek both laughing together.
Lotil watching the two of them being all mushy to each other she wonders to herself about the makings of her future and a question she sometimes asks herself Will I ever find someone to love? That question floods her mind making the teenaged hybrid feel strange about it if such a thing were possible though the answers still untold Lotil's thoughts had fled once Regimen and Terra had made appearance at the table. Dinner was served. Lotil took a big breathe to take in the loving scent of the fried tuna, her mouth watering "Mom, this smells so good! I can't wait to eat it" her mother grins proudly at her work "Why thank you Lotil, it's the hard work that's made it all possible. Now let's eat don't want it getting cold do we?" Regimen being the first takes the tuna in hand and takes a big chunk of it in his mouth in awe at it's pleasurable taste. Lotil following after being somewhat mannerful takes a medium sized bite of the tasty morsel allowing the spicy flavors to settle in her mouth she sighs at it's heat raving taste along her tongue forgetting all about the world around her only for a quick second.
Lotil swallowing her first bite returned to reality to take another chunk out of her tuna when a mossy green monster wearing black suited armor holding what looked like a diamond edged axe had barged in unexpectedly alarming Lotil and her parents. "Regimen! It's an emergency" the monster yelled allowed Regimen looked at him "What is it this time Barkface?" The spiked headed lizard now standing gave a look of sudden concern. Barkface didn't hesitate to respond "The Mewmans have invaded, they are already here as we speak" Regimen's expression changed to anger "Lotil, grab my swords" Lotil followed her father's orders and retrieved his swords from above the mantel that held a photo of her as a little monster and both parents beside her. Grabbing the swords, she gave them to Regimen who was fully ready for a heated battled turned to his daughter and wife "Lotil take you and you're mother somewhere safe I'll take care of this. Don't get involved with this battle."
Lotil, a bit disappointed about that gave her father a look of disapproval "Dad, no I won't let you fight out there alone I want to help you. I'm ready to fight those idiotic Mewmans!" She stood her ground sure enough she could take them but Regimen disagreed "Lotil, no. You are not fully ready, you are still in training and I will not have you risking you're life or you're mother's now go!" He demanded. Lotil not arguing anymore nodded without another word, Regimen and the other monster left the house and straight into battle leaving a very well mad Lotil and her mother behind, Terra patted her daughter's back "It'll be fine Lotil, no need to worry. One day you'll have a chance to be in battle you're father is just looking out for you" Lotil let her eyes turn to her mother "Yeah, I know" she smiled "Good, now let's go find some place safe" Lotil nodded.
As both monsters snuck out of the house they both could see the battle happening Mewmans against Monsters it was horrific to watch. Lotil really wanted to help battle with them but knew better than to disobey her father her and Terra continued making their way to the back side of the woods to hide but something stopped them in their tracks.
A blast of light had barely hit Lotil who dodged just in time the blast hit a tree leaving a black smokey mark on it, both monsters looked to the direction where the attack had come from both in shock to find a Mewman soldier using magic in his own hands in attempts to harm Lotil and her mother. The soldier stared at them getting ready to use another attack Lotil got out her staffly weapon and used it to defend against the blast shot at her defending her mother as well. The soldier merely annoyed took out his own weapon made of magic itself and fought fiercely against Lotil who dodged, attacked, or defended against the attacker with all her might though was fatefully knocked against a rock losing grasp of her spear the soldier stood before her preparing to finish it off with a blast off magic. Lotil closed her eyes expecting to get hit instead felt nothing, nothing at all.
Opening her eyes standing in front of her was Terra, her mother had taken the shot for Lotil who than was collapsing to her knees. The soldier later fled and left both monsters behind, "Mom!" Lotil screamed fear overwhelming her she took hold of her injured mother holding the wolf close tears fell down her face looking over Terra and the wound that formed on her chest the blast had hit her hard Lotil started crying "D-don't worry mom, e-everything will be alright. We can help you, I-I" she stuttered with her words to upset to speak. Terra put both hands on Lotil's cheeks and weakly smiled "Now now, don't cry my baby. It's alright, I love you Lotil. Promise me you'll never blame yourself for the actions of others okay?" Lotil placed a hand to her mother's nodding "Y-yes, I promise but mom I-" Lotil sniffed but her mother cut her off "Ssh, it's not your fault. It'll be alright... everything will...be...alright...." Terra's breathing got slower at her final words before closing her eyes one last time her hands fell from Lotil's face becoming motionless in her arms.
Lotil feeling the change of posture in her mother panicked "No. No. NO! MOM WAKE UP PLEASE! MOM!" She held up her mother but there was no response. No action of any kind. Lotil hiccuped with tears falling further and further down her face dripping down she silently cried "It's my fault, if only I-" she stopped herself "No it's not my fault she, she chose to get in the way and. And" stifling a sob Lotil felt a presence near her, looking to the left noticed Regimen standing just a few feet away from the mourning hybrid had it only taken him a few seconds to shove his daughter from his dead wife held the motionless body close his eyes held grief in them letting them trail to Lotil now standing trying to hold back her tears. "I specifically told you to find a safe place to hide" Regimen began Lotil got defensive "I know and I tried bu-" he interrupted her "But you disobeyed me and got you're mother killed!" The hybrid was shook at his words though tried explaining "If you just let me explain you'll-" Regimen this time got angry and stood over his now frightened daughter "I'll what? Understand that you didn't do what I told you to do? That you fought up against a Mewman who of course killed you're own mother because you didn't follow MY orders to find a safe place to hide and now look at where your careless actions bring you too. I'm disappointed with you Lotil I thought you knew better."
Lotil gasped at his words and gaped at the painful feeling in her chest, the feeling was a mix of sorrow and anger she tried to say something but it only came out as pained laughter cause she wouldn't allow her pained tears to fall anymore. Instead, grabbed her spear, ran into the house, grabbed her things, and stepped out again not looking back at her father she outstretched both wings and took off flying refusing to turn around kept flying further and further away from home. Lotil no longer could stand feeling heated guilt being shoved down her throat and the thought of her being blamed by her own father for her mother's death killed Lotil deeply it hurt her so much that she didn't even want to think about it. She couldn't stand all this heartbroken emotions that tried heaving her downwards cause for her it would only become too much pressure to handle anymore. She vowed to never look back at her past again and for now on would learn to live on her own with the weight of regrets forever on her shoulders.
In progress of all that thinking to herself Lotil became devoted to train harder than ever before, she had plans of her own to take on the threat that kills Monsters. The source and the one behind all the soldiers. Her target. The Queen of Mewni, herself.
