The holidays were coming up again, and Lily was dying to see her parents. As a special treat, they took her out to dinner at a nice restaurant. "Now Lily," her father began, "You know that where we come from, your marriages are set up at a young age. Well, we've found someone for you, you may know him, he goes to school with you," he beckoned someone at a far table and over walked James Potter and his parents. Lily's jaw dropped, but James only smiled in astonishment, he had obviously just been having the same conversation with her parents. Wiping her eyes, Lily ran from the restaurant, and, sliding down the wall, she covered her eyes with her arms and cried.

A few minutes later when her mother found her she asked Lily what was the matter. "He's horrible Mum!" she wailed, "him and his friend Sirius, they're mean to everyone, especially me and Severus". Tears slid down Lily's cheek as her mother's arms enveloped her. "I - I - I d-d-d-don't w-w-want to marry him". "It's OK. All boys are a bit silly when they're younger. I'm sure James will grow to be a lovely young man" her mother reassured her. As soon as they got home, Lily wrote a quick letter to Severus explaining what had happened and attached it to the leg of her tawny owl, Marie.
