Leaving
We turn and then walk towards the entrance. When we walk in, I freeze.
Johanna is standing up the front, addressing crowds of Amity, and I can see a few Dauntless and Abnegation too.
“It is not my wish to encourage division in this community, which has given so much to me,” announces Johanna. “But my conscience forces me to go against this decision. Anyone else whose conscience drives them toward the city is welcome to come with me. I understand if this means I can’t be a part of Amity anymore.” She sniffs. “But please know that if I have to leave you, I leave you with love, rather than malice.” [This passage is from Insurgent]
Johanna gives a short bow, and turns to leave. All the Amity stand up and some start leaving with her. I look at Sam, Rob, Jo and Lucy.
My friends.
If we stay here in Amity, all that will be left is sadness and bad memories.
I have to go.
I stand. My friends look at me. Then they do something that astonishes me.
They stand as well.
And all of us, all five of us walk.
I hear clapping and look to see where it is coming from.
I gasp.
Alena.
She smiles at me for the first time.
"Thank you." I whisper, and face forward as the clapping spreads, and cheering starts. I wave to my former faction as we go.

My mother once told me you can't put out a Dauntless flame.
I thought I had once I joined Amity, but it seems not.
I need to do this. I need to be brave.
I must let that flame flare once more.
