Technology
We landed with a great thud.I had never been so ungraceful in my life. Years and years of poise and etiquette classes and this is how I'd turned out. On a dirty floor.
Suddenly I realized that I wasn't outside anymore. I was in a small room which was probably a quarter of the size of my bedchambers. It had a table and chairs in the center which we very narrowly missed on our landing.
"Is there a way to not fall on our behinds after that?" Caspers whiney voice was unwelcome and broke through my deep observations of the room.
What I hadn't realized was that Diana was not on the ground like the rest of us but standing on the other side of the table with a guilty grin on her face.
"Maybe I should have told you, it's a rough landing if you are not ready." I think she secretly enjoyed watching us make fools of ourselves. My ladies stood and dusted themselves off before helping me to stand as well.
The ceiling of the room was definitely lower than that of the castle ceiling and it was almost as if it was closing in on her. On the ceiling there was a glass chandelier but there seemed no suitable place to light the flame. Diana saw my confusion and began to explain the concept of electricity. None of what she was saying made any sense to me at all. I had once heard a story about there being light with no flame but I had never seen it before my very own eyes!
I walked towards the device that Diana had called a light switch and pushed down. Sure enough, the chandelier gave the room light. I then proceeded to turn it on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and...
"Heavens above would you stop that? You are very possibly the most annoying person on this planet!"
"Oh shush Casper, I am just getting the hang of it." I shrugged him off and continued, just to annoy him.
...
"So what you are saying is that with this small little box thing, I will be able to talk to you from anywhere? Wow, these humans may not possess our magic but they do live a charmed life!" I was in awe of how divisive these humans were. While it was I that could wield the elements, I felt that it was the humans that truly had the power. No pun intended.
"Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. I will leave you to play around with it while I order some food, If you love their technology then you will adore their food!" Diana gave me a last glance and strode out of my new bedroom.
Unlike before, I would no longer need my ladies to dress me or do much else for me as I could do so much more on my own. This was the independence that I had been longing for and finally, I would have it. Diana said that she had organized everything well before we arrived.
She bought the house, somehow acquired a vast amount of money in human currency, bought clothes and devices for each of us and also enrolled us into school.
This was it, I would finally be able to meet people that don't feel the need to call me special names and do whatever they think will please me. I could just be me. Hopefully, in this world, I would make friends. Real friends.
"Princess, is there anything we can do for you?" Kinsey gazed at me intently.
"No, no. You may both retire to your own chambers. I will be fine by myself."
I watched them leave and as soon as Aliah closed the door behind her, I ran.
I ran straight to the bed and jumped. While I was midair I turned so that I was laying on my back. I put the mobile up in the air in front of my face and began playing with my new toy. It was silver on the back and the 'screen' was black. I pressed the 'home' button and it turned on, shining on a light on my face. On the screen there were little boxes, Diana had told me they were apps. The green one with a white bubble in it was called imessage. This would be used to type letters to people and it would send through the network to the desired persons mobile. There was another green app that was used for speaking over long distances and this could be used for longer conversations or emergencies. Diana had said that sending letters was quicker and easier so that was what she preferred.
What I was most enthralled by was the Camera. Diana said it could capture paintings or record actions. I clicked on the camera app and it opened straight onto my face. It was strange, I could see myself move, just like a mirror.
So I sat there for an hour pulling faces.
My fun was interrupted by Casper barging into my room ever so rudely. Except it was unfortunate that I expected that of him. I began to realize I barely knew him. Maybe it was time to give him a chance.
"Food arrived and I was told to bring it to you. Your ladies are working hard on school paperwork or something with Diana." I looked him over. There was no food with him.
"Where is the food?"
"Well, Diana really didn't order enough so I ate it in my room along with my own food just before."
Nevermind second chances.
He gave me a devious smirk and walked back out of my room leaving the door wide open.
First, he eats all the food then he decides to leave my door open. Does he enjoy tormenting me? I swear he is evil. Maybe not evil but I guess he could be considered the Loki of Veleminis. Mischevious and devious.
...
Diana had to order more food for me and she was quite mad and gave Casper a great scolding which had him trembling. Luckily I had a great vantage point and a new electronic piece that would record this moment and save it forever. Or at least until I needed it.
The food arrived (again) and the person delivering had quite a laugh saying we must be a hungry bunch of kids considering this is the second round of food. Diana said something like "you have no idea" and give him some paper, I think the paper was money. They said their goodbyes and she closed the front door.
She now held a large square box. The smells wafting over were divine.
"My dear, the phone is a great invention but I like the human's food more. This delite in my hand is called Pizza and it will change your life!"
It most certainly did.
