Wolves Of The Ravine (abandoned)

Chapter 11

"T-Tyun?" Ferone awkwardly called to the larger wolf.

"What?" Tyun grunted, staring ahead as they walked down the giant slope.

"Do you know what East Paws are?" Ferone inquired, he hoped that Tyun would not question the origin of his question. Starling had claimed that the Parnes rightfully owned the ravine and were being invaded by the 'East Paws.'

Surprisingly, Tyun did not ridicule him. "I guess we never told you. We're the East Paws. Our alpha from many generations ago would always watch the sunrise in the east. He believed that our rightful territory would be on the east, where the sun rose."

"Can I ask you one more thing?" Ferone asked, his tail wagging with interest.

"This better be the last question." Tyun grunted.

"Where did the Parnes come from?" Ferone barked.

Tyun's paused momentarily as if he were recollecting his thoughts. "The alpha from many generations ago had a beta named Parnos. Parnos was a good wolf, friendly, strong and loyal. But the alpha had received dark omens from the star wolves about Parnos, to the point where he banished him to the west; where the sun set. Many wolves followed Parnos, partly because they felt his exile was unrightful, and partly because they believed he was a better leader than the alpha." Tyun recited.

By the time Tyun finished his story, they had reached the bottom of the slope and into the pack's camp.

Ferone noticed Rift depositing mice on what seemed like a pile of sticks and leaves. "Go." Tyun growled. "You should be able to hold two measly rabbits on that grip of yours." Tyun streaked away to the sixth den.

Ferone sighed, unsurprised, he should have know Tyun would not stay nice any longer than a heart beat.

"Need help?" A new voice interrupted, Ferone jumped. He had not noticed Rift standing in front of him. Ferone nodded.

"These rabbits are quite heavy, they're very good catch; since they can't run so fast yet they feed a lot of hungry mouthes." Rift complimented, with a rabbit between her teeth.

"T-thanks a lot." Ferone barked, dipping his head to Rift after depositing his rabbit. He was rather surprised to see another wolf treat him nicely.

"You usually look surprised half the time. Don't worry, it'll takes time before the pack gets used to you." Rift comforted, as if she could read his thoughts. "I know how you feel."

"You know how I feel?" Ferone squeaked. He did not miss the flash of hurt in Rift's eyes.

"Yes. I'd rather not talk about it. You can ask Craden." Rift muttered, looking away.

"Craden? Who's that, and why him?" Ferone asked.

"Craden is also a softpaw, he has golden fur, you can't miss him. He's my brother." Rift explained.

Ferone nodded. "It looks like a big deal, I won't ask anyone about whatever happened to you." He reassured. Rift's eyes glittered gratefully for a second.

"Oh yes, Brincel was looking for you earlier, he was just wandering around the sixth den." Rift noted, she pointed her tail to a sloped den.

"Thanks!" Ferone called, before nodding a farewell to Rift.

Brincel was lying on his fluffy paws, his eyes glazed with boredom. He leaped up when he noticed Ferone awkwardly making his way towards him.

"Where were you?" Brincel demanded.

"I was hunting, then I talked with Rift." Ferone answered.

Brincel's ears flicked with interest. "What did you talk about?" He asked.

Ferone shrugged. "Places to find prey." He lied. Brincel seemed slightly disappointed, but that was sooned replaced with enthusiasm.

"How about I show you around camp?" Brincel squeaked, his eyes glittering with pure excitement.

"Sure." Ferone nodded, maybe it was best to get settled in the life of a wolf of the ravine.
