Secrets

A group of teenagers about my age walked past, two boys and three girls. I glanced at them and began to strum my guitar, not wanting to start a conversation with them. ''Hey'' The boy in the middle was looking at me. What should I say? ''erm, hi'' I muttered. Now feeling a bit silly, I carried on my business. The two girls at the front of the pack looked at each other and seemed to be giggling at what I said. I wondered if I had said something funny, I could not remember what I said. I felt weird. The other boy stared at my and smiled sweetly, but there was something about him I did not like. I stood up, rested my guitar against the rail and rushed inside. It might have been the heat, but I soon felt sick. I don't think I was used to the heat.

I ran the kitchen tap and leant my two hands on each side of the sink. There was a knock on the door; Oh gosh. It was them, so I thought. What would I say? They will think I'm weird now! I hid behind the wall next to the sink, so I could not be seen through the window. The knocking continued. Louder, louder. The door handle was rattling, what did they want?

''Lara! Lara, are you in honey? It's me, mom'' I sunk down to the floor and let out a sigh of relief, I went to let her in. She stared at my with that concerned '' I know what's right'' look mothers do all so well. ''Hi, mom'' I said, calmly. ''Hiya Hon, are you alright Sweetie? You do look a bit pale. I forgot my keys so I had to knock.'' Mom was trying to be mom-ly. But with her high leather boots and short, denim scruffy skirt and bright red hair she didn't suit it. Neither did her nature. ''I'm fine, Cathy'' I ran upstairs and sat on the top stair. ''Lara, Lara?'' she retorted, running after me. I turned my back to her like a sulking toddler. ''Hey, it's Mom. Don't call me that. I'm better now, I promise. No more alcohol, no more smoking or drugs. I promise'' I was confused, drugs? She never took drugs. Did she? Her words spun around in my head, why did this shock me so much? ''Drugs, drugs?!'' I shouted, standing up making sure she felt like a piece of dirt on my shoe like she made me feel like when she threw me away.
