Chapter Five
A slur of profanities escape my mouth. Jay says some slightly harsher words, most of them beginning with F.I ungracefully clamber off of Jay, accidentally kneeing him in the crotch.
He groans, another list of profanities leaves his mouth.
"Sorry!" I say, crawling along the grass to try and find my shirt. I see Jay doing the same.
"Maria!" He says, tossing my tank top. "Let's go!"
The blue lights shine through the fence, and chaos breaks lose in the house. A mob of people rush out the back door, yelling and stumbling. At first, I'm not sure how they think they are going to get out of the backyard, but most of them just hop the fence. Well, fall over it.
For a second, I'm too stunned to move, but then Jay grabs my hand and tugs me towards the back fence. He shoves past some people to get to it. In one fluid movement, he swings himself over. He gestures to me, telling me to come on.
I try to do the same thing he did, but my sandal gets caught in a rung and I sprawl forward. Jay catches me.
"Thanks," I say.
"No problem."
A loud voice from behind us yells "Freeze!"
We run. Jay grabs my hand as we take off. Suddenly, he pulls me into the trees beside us. I open my mouth to ask him what we're doing, but he puts his hand over my mouth. He smirks as I roll my eyes.
Finally, he pulls his hand away. "We are going to chill out here until the coast is clear. Then, we will go to my place."
"Why?"
"Does your mom want you to come home smelling like booze?" He asks.
I want to tell him I live with my sister, but I don't. "No."
"Okay."
We stand, listening to the crickets chirp around us.
"So, that kiss back there was something else," he smiles at me.
I blush furiously.
He leans in, lips on my ear. "You're cute when you're shy."
I pull my face slightly back. I want to kiss him again, but what does that mean? I couldn't possibly like Jay. We're nothing alike. He's a jerk. He's a rebel. He's trouble.
But, he did help me tonight. How much did I really know about him anyway?
My hands trail up his torso and around his neck, tugging gently at the loose curls.
I can't help but notice the butterflies in my stomach. Why did he make me so nervous? So excited?
He leans in, his lips barely brushing mine.
I close the distance between us. His mouth moves slowly, sensually against mine. It is so much different than the kiss we just shared a few minutes ago. It's not urgent or rushed. It's a kiss that is full of passion and love and oh my god.
What am I thinking?
I pull away, but leave my hands in his hair. He ducks his head a bit, and I rest my forehead on his.
"Something wrong?" He asks.
"No," I lie. What I should have said was 'yes, I think I might actually be attracted to you which is stupid because I could never like someone like you and you could never possibly even imagine being with someone like me.'
"I think the coast is clear," he says. His eyes have a hint of mischief in them.
"Good," I say. But a part of me. A small part, wishes we could stay forever.
*authors note*
So yeah. What do you guy think?
I'm trying to include more romance into this one, because I know how many people love the romance. Haha.
