I Tried
It had been a few days since the cryfest. She'd had to explain why she left the house without permission, and when they told the truth, they got unnecessarily concerned.
She'd been pretty miserable the past two days. Today was no exception.
Was that all she was?
A stupid popular idiot?
The very thought sent her over the edge again, and she shoved her face in her knees to muffle the tears.
She hadn't talked to Gee or any of them since that day. And quite frankly, she didn't want to.
It was a Saturday.
"Helena, we're going to the hair salon today!!"
"Coming, mom."
She put on her jacket and went into the kitchen.
"What hairstyle do you want?"
"Skrillex hair."
"Are you sure? The kids at your school might-"
"I know, mom."
The two came out of the house and went into the grey Chevrolet.
The car revved up, and they drove for a couple of minutes. The hair salon was around five minutes away.
The girl's footsteps creaked as she walked across the wooden floor.
"Hey, Connie."
"Hello, Helena! What hair today?"
"Can you give me Skrillex hair?"
"Excuse me?"
"Shave half of my hair off."
"Okay, if your mom said yes."
"I did, Connie." Mom.
The girl got into the chair. Connie draped that thing that looked like an apron across her, tying it at the back.
She then grabbed a razor.
"Are you sure, Helena?"
"Yes."
"Okay then."
Connie activated the razor and started shaving it off of the girl's right side of her head.
It felt good to her.
Like a new start.
After 30 minutes, the two went back into the grey Chevy and drove back to their house.
It was a new start.
The air from her mom's open window felt good against the shaved part of her black hair.
What would Isaac say?
Either think she's going insane or love it. Most likely, he'd think she was insane.
But who cared. This was her. Something new.
Something.... different.
