A Hostage
"B-but everything's fine!' Aylon protested, the wind ruffling his fur.Diana took at good look at Canon town. Everything did seem fine. Noone was rushing in a frenzy, noone was crying, no soldiers were swarming the place. Why were they here? Was it a false alarm? But the noses of animals tell what we cannot see, and Diana smelled trouble-deep trouble.
"I don't think so, Aylon," she barked. "We came here for a reason. Let's continue on."
The two gaurdians began to walk into Canon Town, until Aylon realized something. "Diana, we don't have disguises. Everyone will know it's us...remember the Hyron Incident."
Shuddering, the rainbow wolf shook aside the thought. "I know, that was HORRIBLE. But the odds of that ever happening again are miniscule. So stop worrying your lazy furry blue butt off and just help whoever's in trouble."
Aylon grumbled and brushed past her, worried and annoyed. The pang of whatever Diana had felt for him earlier was gone. She tossed her head, determined to only focus on this case. She would deal with her tiger friend later.
They finally entered, trying to be inconspicuous. But as soon as the first pair of eyes spotted them, a cry rang out.
"Singdash! Flyburst!"
Voice after voice took up the call, a chant of the two gaurdians who would protect this world. Bursting into a roar as loud as the Nigara Falls, deafening the two animal's ears, Diana felt joyful, knowing that she and Aylon had helped these animals and kept them safe from harm.
"Singdash! Flyburst! Singdash Flyburst!"
Aylon glanced at her, his eyes furious. He mouthed, I told you so.
Diana rolled her eyes. We'll deal with it later, she mouthed back, just as a thumping of paws alerted the pair to the presence of a new animal.
It was a fox, slightly out of breath. He was a ordinary luscious orange, with the fluffy tail and wide ears. He had pale green markings everywhere-on his tail, dotting his eyes, ringing around his paws. The most extrodinary feature about this fox was his eyes-they were a dark, unique pink, speckled with brown. But right now, those eyes were full of raw fear.
"Gaurdians, thank goodness you've come," he panted, barely heard above the hopeful cheers of the crowd. "This is a most urgent case."
"It better be," Aylon grumbled, still irked after his fight with Diana.
The fox didn't notice any of that. "A few minutes earlier, a red parakeet, a five-headed dog, and a winged horse came in. They asked to tour this town. I let them, thinking that they meant no harm, b-but I was wrong." The fox's voice trembled, and he wrapped his bushy tail around himself, trembling. "They took my Inda hostage-just carried her off like a sausage. And-and they told me I would n-n-never see her again..." here a few sparkling, woeful tears splashed upon the mucky, sedimented ground.
Diana and Aylon looked at eachother. So the S.O.S was only a minor call, then. Worry lifting off her shoulders, Diana crouched down and barked in a soothing voice. "Who is Inda, anyway?"
"She is my wife." The fox wiped his eyes with a dirty paw. "I'm the Chief Inforcer of the Justice Department."
Aylon nodded. "Ok, where is she?"
The Chief pointed to a dirty, ramshackled house. "They're keeping her in the basement."
"Ok, thank you. We'll have her out in no time." Diana smiling assuredly, in which the fox's eyes got a hopeful glimmer.
In the house they entered, full of cobwebs and dust-bunnies and a few skerats. Diana got a shiver down her lean back, creeped out already. Aylon was doing a good job of hiding his fear, or he was genuinly unfazed. He padded over to a creaking, dark set of stairs leading downwards. "This must be the basement." He stepped down one stair, when he mewled and jumped back. For a second, Diana's heart stopped, but then a furiously squeaking skerat flew in the air besides her, and she could breathe again.
"Dumb vermin," Aylon grumbled, and they resumed their path.
They finally reached a small, dark room, full of the air of breathing objects. "Ugh..I can't see anything," Aylon grumbled. Diana felt the same way, althought she could see her friend's luminous white marks glowing like a diamond. "Where's a light source?" The tiger's nimble feet storlled blindly around the room, echoing as loudly as a canyon.
Diana suddenly had a urgent fear, something was terribly wrong. "Aylon-" she whispered, as he poked around for a light source.
"Hello?" He said, groping in the blackness. "It's us, Flyburst and Singdash. We've come to rescue you."
He suddenly flicked something on, and a bright light filled the area. The first thing Diana noticed was a pair of lavender eyes, full of fear. The second thing she noticed was that her hackles were rising, as they naturally did when something dangerous was around. The third thing was that Aylon was shouting, panicked, and something suddenly pounced on the young she-gaurdian, pinning her down. A pair of musty, yellowed fangs occupied the space above her head, a low, predatory growl sounding in her ears, and all suddenly went black.
