The next morning, I wasn't late, thank heavens. I checked my timetable. History? Again? Come on, I knew nothing about history. Yeah, American history! Presidents, Civil war but none of this Gulias Ceeser stuff! I stomped into history and saw the only other people in the classroom. Isabella, two other girls and two other boys."Hey, Bea," Isabella said.
"Hey Bella."
"Look, these are my friends and who you'll be hanging out with."
I nod, smiling.
"This is Nathan," she says, gesturing to a ginger haired boy.
"Hey, Bea," he grins and I can't help liking him.
"Alisha and Emma," she says, gesturing to the girls. Alisha smiles but Emma waves me away with distaste. Charming.
"And Matt," she says. The other boy grins too. Then the blonde boy who had been with the motorbikes and Leon yesterday entered and grinned and Bella. "Hey Bella, nice bag," he said. "Where d'ya get it?"
"Shut up Kyle," she shouted with even looking at him. Kyle smirked at sat down. More students poured in and the only absent seat was Leon Ruiz's. Halfway through the lesson, the door banged open and Leon walked through without even apologizing.
"Mr Ruiz. You're late." Mr Hubbard bellowed.
"Oh yeah."
"Don't give me that attitude!"
"Sorry." That was sarcastic.
"Sit down now."
Leon smirked and slid into his seat. He gave a brief look at me but this time I held his gaze, staring him down. He turned away and I caught a glint of gold in his blue eyes.
"So class, today we will be looking at the history of Shakespear," Mr Hubbard announces. I try to supress a smile. Not that I enjoy Shakespeare but we wouldn't be doing Julias Caeser would we?
"Leon, tell me the name of a comedy, a romance and a tradgedy.
"Romeo and Juliet was a tradgedy."
"No, it was a romance."
"But everyone dies. That's kind of tragic isn't it?"
"Yes but the main story is based on the romance."
"And the dying."
Mr Hubbard sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Right, Elizabeth, you tell me."
"The comedy of errors. Romeo and Juliet. Hamlet."
"Perfect! Thank you." I'm surprised at my knowledge, as well as pleased. He asks Isabella the next question but I'm not concentrating. I'm looking at Leon. He is staring at me angrily and I am taken aback. His hand clenches into a fist on the table and I hear a crunch. He opens his hands and looks at his crushed pencil. I choke in shock at his strength and Mr Hubbard turns to me. "Anything you want to share with us, Miss Thorne?"
"N-no."
"Right. Be quiet then unless I tell you otherwise."
Leon is staring at me with a look of relief in his eyes. His gold eyes-Gold?
I try to peer closer but he turns away and flips his dark hair over his eyes.
He slowly unclenches his fist and I divert my attention to the board. The lesson goes on and I don't look at Leon anymore, only my book and the board. I am writing my last paragraph of writing on Midsummer night's dream when I hear a screech and a thud. I look up instinctively and see Leon has pushed the table back, walked out of the door and slammed it. Five seconds later, the bell rings. Mr Hubbard looks at the floor in annoyance and collects his papers.
"Homework class, is to choose a Shakespeare piece and write up a whole report on it. It's due in next Thursday."
I start to walk out, find Leon and demand why he had acted like that to me. Why he had scowled at me angrily, why he seemed to have a problem with me. But Alisha and Isabella were there, waiting for me.
