Riding Away

Riding away in life,
Riding away into the wilderness beyond.
Running away from everything,
Stumbling but not falling.
I can’t fall down now,
I have come so far.
Not letting anyone get close to me.
They would get hurt.
Lifting the weight of the world on my back,
Taking all the pain of hurt memories and fighting them back.
Alone always alone,
If I’m not alone then I’m never together in my mind.
Leaving my friends behind as I walk away from everything I’ve ever known.
Crying as I watch them fade into the sky.
Turning to see the new future in the headlights,
Looking in the rearview mirror to see the past slowly fading to dust.
Looking to the left and right as a girl in the window rides on a horse keeping up.
Never slowing down,
Keeping pace with the future,
She keeps her head high.
Not letting the past get her down.
She is me,
I am her,
Riding to keep up with the future.
Letting go of nothing,
Showing no fear.
Sunshine is where I walk,
No darkness or fear.
Laughing away the days,
In game and play.
Working hard,
To win the game.
Studying endless hours,
To be ready for the next tower.
Sitting quiet to watch and learn,
The mistakes I don’t want to learn.
Not saying a word,
Off in my own world.
Running in the wild in my mind.
Shooting for goals so high,
Then barely reaching the crystal blue sky.
The world hisses in hope to break me,
But all I do is laugh.
No rain or storm,
Just sunshine.
I see the past in the future of each and every day,
Showing how it relives in a new way.
The story of us all running away,
All of us riding away to the new day.
