Maybe We're Not So Different After All
Alex and I exchanged worried glances as we raced down the hall like our lives depended upon it, which, strictly speaking, was true. We hadn’t even gotten five feet into the prison before the alarm bells started ringing, almost as if they knew we were coming. A few seconds later, here we were running for our lives with a whole squad of buff guards right on our heels. We ran on and on until we felt as though our legs would give out beneath us. Then suddenly, we came to a dead end. There was nowhere to hide in the dim, empty hallway. We still heard the heavy footsteps of the guards, but they were more distant, almost as if they had stopped chasing us. Speaking of us, where were we?
Looking around, I saw a slight shadow in the corner of my eye. It was a young girl! She couldn’t be more than our age. Calling softly, I said, “Hello there, I’m Renée and this is my... um... sister, Alex. What’s your name?”
“How can that be? Why, you look exactly like me...” Muttered the strange girl.
“Step into the light.”
“Why?”
“So I can see what you look like.”
“Okay...”
When the girl stepped into the dim light, it was immediately certain that she and Renée looked soo similar it was scary.
