Four times the charm
~Hazel's POV~As the class poured out of French class, I spotted Beatrice Prior. She was popular for harking from Chicago, the faction Abnegation. I scanned the crowd to find others I knew. I spotted Renesmee Cullen in the crowd. She was a sophomore, like me. Her older sister, Bella Swan, and her older brother, Edward Cullen, were juniors. Her past was unknown. She was a floater, avoiding the other kids at Mount Grays High and sitting with her siblings at lunch. But I saw her talking to Annabeth before school started, and she sounded perky enough.
Oh. Annabeth. She was coming out from Algebra. Luke, a blond haired guy, trailed behind her. He flashed Tris an optimistic grin, exposing his perfect teeth, which Tris didn't return. Christina, who had passed notes to me during French, told me he had ditched her suddenly before school started.
Edward and Bella passed. Edward had a hand around Bella, guiding her away from the students. Four trotted up to me, avoiding Tris's gaze as she walked away. "Hey, Four," I said. "Hey, Hazel." "Please," I said, "Call me Hazel Grace." Images of me and Augustus Waters floated through my brain, one after the next. Smiling. Playing the Price of Dawn video game. Then words followed.
"Okay? Okay." My thought when he died: "I do, Augustus, I do." All the memories crumbled together in a ball that rolled around in my brain, triggering aches in different parts of my brain. I sighed.
"Sorry. Sorry. I forgot!" Smiled Four. "It's not funny!" I wanted to scream. But I knew if I explained my past relationship with Augustus, Four would feel upset at how much it took to get over him.
Four wrapped his arm around my shoulders and guided me towards my next class: Art. "Are you an interior designer?" he asked. I had heard this pick up line many, many times.
"Stop flirting with me, Augustus Waters!" I snapped. My hand flew to my lips. "I mean, Tobias Eaton!" I giggled under my sweaty fingers. Four turned to me. "Hazel," he said, "what's wrong?"
My story spilled through my lips and slid on the pearl floors outside of Art. The whole tale was told nice and clear, like it was a monologue I had memorized. I had expected Tobias to either be furious or puzzled. But instead his warm hands were on my torso. "I'm sorry, Hazel," he said. Then his lips met mine. When he stopped kissing me, he explained his untold story to me. I never knew he was dating Tris before me! It made me look at her rib cage below her B-Cups a lot differently. A bullet lodged in there! I couldn't picture it.
Four smiled at me. His normal toothy grin, but understanding in his eyes. I felt tired and woozy. I held onto him for support.
"You can really charm somebody," I muttered. Four shrugged. I stumbled into Art.

A young lady was the teacher in Art. She wore a brown paint-stained apron. Dry and wet paint combined on it to create a color to matched the color of the original apron. Her black hair tumbled down her back. She wore earrings that brushed her shoulder blades. They tickled the eagle tattoo she had there. She stroked a piece of thick blank paper. The brush strokes were faint and smooth. But I couldn't pay attention.
